Today was my first day underground as artist-in-residence at the Sanford Underground Research Facility! Incredible experience—I am still coming down from the high (or coming up from the depths?). Here are a few quick peeks from 4,850ft under the surface.

Local DC artist did an amazing job interpreting this idea of a wheel that’ll hold forks and spoons. This will be the selection process for all the remaining Fork and Spoon Buckets. I’m not quite sure how I’ll use this wheel, but I’m hoping you guys might have some suggestions?

Come see (and hear) "Insert 25 Cents to Feel Something" on Wednesday night (6pm–6:20pm) at the DC CAH hesdquarters, 200 Eye Street SW, as part of the Earth Day performance series for the show, "Finders Keepers." Should be a rewarding evening, and not just 'cause I'm handing out quarters!

Last few days to see "Backdriven (Driven Back)" as part of "Repair" at @ulisesbooks (Philadelphia)! It comes down 6pm on Sunday. This artwork seeks nervously until a presence is detected in front of it. Moving closer or further away from it causes it to gently spin. When the lid is closed, like a parrot, it sleeps. The spinning, copper-colored object is the inside of a spindle motor from a CNC router. This motor failed; it seemed like a bearing had gone bad, which I thought I could replace, so I took it apart. Out came ten years’ of powdered metal, wood, and plastic—and also this gleaming form. I decided to replace my CNC router’s spindle with a new one, but wished to honor this failed motor by connecting it to a new motor (at the very bottom) which provides it with new life. Thank you @bamblerdander for these beautiful images, and @emitter_base_collector and @olliegoss_ for including my work in the show!
