It’s a big month for Maia Kobabe (@redgoldsparks ), MFA Comics Alum ‘15! On May 5, eir new middle grade graphic novel written with Lucky Srikumar (@luckys.comix ) debuted. We’re so excited for this important story to find the souls who need to be seen. Also, next week May 19, the famous Gender Queer is updated with an extended annotated version published by Simon & Schuster! Including several contributions by the CCA community (@mgillman , @justinhallcomics , @biche_bash , @mattsilady , and @ajuanmance ), it’s an expansive update to an important book of our history. Check them out, and congratulations Maia on all of your creation and community building!
To celebrate the end of the academic year, the CCA Comics BFA and MFA students joined forces to make our 2026 Zine Yearbook together! Everyone carved a little block-printing self portrait and stamped them into the pages of our annual yearbook zine.

Our very own @winterweix (MFA Comics ‘27) will debut her book Magic Up at @fbdm_mtl (Festival BD de Montréal / Montréal Comics and Arts Festival) this weekend! Developed throughout her first year in the MFA program, Magic Up is a full-color and timeless fairy tale that’s unfortunately all too real. Winter’s work is filled with incisive commentary juxtaposed with gorgeously rendered visuals. Check out her nonfiction piece in @crucialcomix as well (previewed in slides 3 & 4). Good luck this weekend Winter, and congratulations on the achievement!!
Huge congratulations to our BFA Comics Class of 2026 on an INCREDIBLE senior thesis comics reading, live on stage tonight at CCA! All 8 of our graduating seniors performed their thesis comics for a live audience, the culmination of a year’s hard work at the drawing board — with stories ranging from magical girls to banjo fights to La Llorona and more. Calling all CCA Comics folks (undergrads, grads, majors, minors, faculty, EVERYONE) -- we're gonna celebrate the end of the semester Monday May 11th by partying in the homeroom and making the 2026 CCA Comics Zine Yearbook! Join us to carve a little block-printing self portrait and add it to the pages of the official 2026 class yearbook, printed collaboratively on site by everyone together. All supplies provided, and no block-printing experience required! Free pizza and drinks for all! Everyone will leave with a copy of the official 2026 zine yearbook! This event is open to anyone/everyone who's in any way connected to the CCA Comics program -- students, faculty, staff, anybody. Join us to party and make our new yearbook together!
