Pole to Pole ‘This dive was more terrifying than any Hollywood role’ - @willsmith Pole to Pole has just dropped on Disney+, a series that is set on expanding our understanding of ecosystems across our planet. The final episode of which sees Will undertake an arctic plunge that took months of planning, careful preparation and expertise from a diversely experienced and formidable team. Of which I’m incredibly proud to say I was a part of. My background is as an ice diving specialist and my role across this shoot was to ensure that Will was safe and prepared for arguably one of the most challenging dives on the planet. I trained Will in Dubai and Svalbard ahead of the big dive at the North Pole. Something very few humans have ever done! He took the training incredibly seriously and was very much out of his comfort zone about diving under the ice. Despite that, he stepped up, conquered his fears, and dived in one of the most insane locations on the planet. He deserves nothing but respect, and I couldn’t be more proud to have completed the dive alongside him! Diving under the ice at the North Pole with Will Smith for Pole to Pole as his safety diver was one of the most immense experiences of my career! @nutopiatv put together an incredible crew to film this series across multiple locations taking Will smith from Pole to Pole. Because sometimes, setting things on fire underwater IS the solution. Burning steel beneath the surface is one of my favourite jobs commercial diving. This was part of a military project in Hawaii I was immensely proud to be involved in.

A little Taste of Kwajalein

Installing cameras on the sea ice for National Geographics ‘Secrets of the Penguins’. Diving in freezing Antarctic waters of Atka Bay, Bertie Gregory and I used ice screws to secure cameras at precise exit points where emperor penguins launch out of the ocean. Working around the constantly shifting ice, as we installed the cameras underwater in the freezing waters all for a few seconds of behaviour. Supported by Polar safety and Logistics team, including Scott Webster, Pete Webster and Dr Kendrick Turner, to make sure we got out safe. All to demonstrate how incredible penguins are underwater and their ability to use air lubrication to shoot out of the water onto the icy world above. #secretsofthepenguins #antarctica #emperorpenguins #natgeo #talesmith #polarsafetyandlogistics #secretcompass
