SCI_ART 2026 convenes artists, scientists, and research institutions from Canada and the European Union for a transnational Artist-in-Residence program and festival taking place in Western Canada, from September 22 to October 8, 2026 across Vancouver Island, Vancouver, and the Okanagan.

What does a single day look like when the climate data becomes visible? This timelapse is built from real projections for the Okanagan Valley. We used #GIS data and peer reviewed climate forecasts to simulate the physical world so we can read the data differently. The #TruthMachine is an AI pipeline for visualizing scientific data and creating a space for engagent. The data is real. Curated by Fotografiska, the group exhibition SPACE: A Visual Journey started its trajectory in Stockholm, traveled to Tallinn, and is now in Shanghai in a new iteration titled SPACE: Internal Illuminations. Co-curated by Fotografiska Global Exhibition Director Johan Vikner and independent curator Iris Long.
Albert Einstein used the phrase “internal illumination” to describe human sentience — the capacity to connect perception with emotion, transforming experience into intuition and meaning. He believed that without this internal illumination “the universe would only be a pile of dirt.”
Inspired by this idea, the exhibition channels artistic meditations on the cosmos—from echoes of ancient myth and religion to visions of future space travel — the 20 artists and artist groups in this exhibition offer deeply personal journeys through diverse media such as photography, video, and installation that will, we hope, awaken the illumination within each of us.
Tonight is the final night to experience All the Stars We Cannot See on the Urban Screens outside the Kelowna Community Theatre. We’re so grateful to Dr. Megan Smith and Dr. Gao Yujie for bringing this incredible work back to Kelowna and sharing it with our local community after being exhibited internationally! 🛰️⭐️🌎

This immersive digital artwork transforms real satellite data into a stunning virtual night sky—featuring 25,500+ satellites currently orbiting Earth. By visualizing this ever-expanding network, the work invites viewers to reflect on space colonization, surveillance, global communication systems, and the rapidly shifting constellations shaping our futures.
All the Stars We Cannot See has garnered global recognition, including an Honorary Mention at Ars Electronica 2022! It has been exhibited at EVA London, Technarte Bilbao, the Kelowna Art Gallery, York University, the Festival Internacional de la Imagen in Colombia, and Fotografiska Shanghai.
We are honoured to bring this extraordinary work to downtown Kelowna.
