I immigrated to Halifax from China when I was eight years old. In my class there was one other Chinese girl. I spoke about 10 words of English, and I copied all my homework assignments from this girl. In exchange I bribed her with candy.
Growing up, I never saw anyone who looked like me doing comedy. I never even imagined that I would do anything in the arts, let alone perform and sing in front of a live audience.
ONE ASIAN AFTER ANOTHER is the culmination of an intense year in the Second City Conservatory Program. A year of refining my comedic voice, pushing myself out of my comfort zone, and unpacking many of our shared experiences growing up Asian. (In fact this might the most Asians in one improv/sketch program ever, I’ll keep repeating this claim until someone proves me otherwise)
I’m incredibly proud of the show my cast mates and I are putting on and I can’t wait for all of you to laugh, cry and feel Asian.
The show runs during May every Friday at 7:30PM at the John Candy theatre at Second City!

About Iron Mule Film Festival:
The Iron Mule Short Comedy Screening Series was founded in April, 2002, as First Sundays, at the Chicago City Limits Theater in NYC and has been screening monthly. In our 20 years we have presented more than 2,000 short comedy films from around the world, including early work from many celebrated filmmakers and comedians (we don’t really like dropping names but here are some of them: Stephen Colbert, Lena Dunham, Dan Harmon, Aziz Ansari — but our favorites have been made by people like you).
We are a collective of filmmakers and film lovers who meet monthly to celebrate funny and inventive short cinema among friends. Join us if you dare!
Thank you @austinrevolution for awarding Best International Director to Spermatozoon! This award goes out to the amazing and so talented cast and crew who made this film what it is. Also the festival had 2000 submissions this year so this award is 😱🔥🥳😍

So excited to premier Spermatozoon in Austin at the Austin Revolution Film Festival Feb 12-15. @austinrevolution is a true indie filmmaker’s festival and one of the most fun festivals I’ve been to. Their organizer James is an unstoppable force and plans themed nights throughout the festival. True summer camp vibes. ☀️ They had over 2000 submissions this year(!) and I’m honored our film has been nominated for best international short, best international actor @shaughnessyredden and best international actress @feiren . Congrats to the whole team!
Taking a moment out to celebrate. Spermatozoon, which started as a 48 hour Run N Gun project, has screened so far at 11 in person film festivals across the US, Canada and Australia. It has played at all the major comedy cities in North America (Toronto, Chicago, NY, LA, Atlanta) and was nominated for outstanding comedy short at this year’s Toronto Sketchfest. Also, my mom took her boss and coworkers to see it in NY last weekend, which given it’s a comedy about a sperm mixup, I’ve decided it’s the ultimate expression of Chinese motherly love.
More festival news to come but in the meantime shoutout to the entire team and tagging those I know are on IG! @shaughnessyredden@feiren@alecdavinsantos@thebrandialexander@lilclittyx@magsbriand@trevorkomori@pamelaolivermunoz@chckn8r@rngfest
