FLY GIRL, written by @thegenevievehegney and @cathmooreherself , directed by @janinemichaelawatson , opened two weeks ago at @ensembletheatre .
Based on the life of Deborah Lawrie, Australia’s first commercial Female pilot, this show is a rare opportunity as an artist to get to work on supporting a historic story while also meeting the woman it is about (Deb herself attended some rehearsals and opening night). I feel quite lucky to have met Deb and contributed to the sounds of the production.
Gen, Cath, Janine, and the entire team have tackled the massive task of condensing everything into one show, jumping across 55 scenes and countless characters. Simply watching the performance and seeing everyone scramble from fake mustache to hostie uniform will show you how much work (and at what pace) they’ve all put in for months to meet the scope of the story. It’s been a wild ride.
