NEW YEAR, NEW ADVENTURES
As the new year approaches, this seems a good time to let you know that, after 12 years, I have decided to hang up my apron and close the doors of Cathlene’s Cakes.
The last 12 years have been a joy, and I’m proud of every cake I’ve made for all my lovely clients.
My reasons for finishing now are many and varied; I won’t bore you with details. Simply put, it is time for a change, and I’m looking forward to what comes next.
Thank you to all my clients, happy couples, and the many fantastic wedding suppliers I have had the privilege of working with over the years. It’s been a blast!
Wishing you all a happy, healthy and hopeful New Year.
HELLO!! It's been a while since I showed my face on here so I thought it was high time.
This is me looking pleased as punch at the Sami Tipi Spring Showcase.
Here's a few random facts about me:
My current favourite restaurant is @phorestaurant which serves Vietnamese street food and the menu is almost entirely gluten-free.
My first & favourite car was a fire engine red 1960 VW Beetle that I transported from Australia to the UK when I moved here. His name was Chilli Bean. By chance, the people who bought him off me have since transported him back to Australia.
The best job I've had (other than cake maker obviously) was as a chalet host in a French ski resort. Hard work but the perks were worth it.
Wafer paper ruffles were the stars of Laura and Shaun's wedding cake a week or so ago. Combined with an emerald green tier with gold stenciled design, embossed interlocking fondant hearts, and gorgeous fresh roses, the final cake was a bit of a show stopper.
All my very best wishes to the happy couple.
LEXI & MICHAEL // Happy 1st anniversary for a week or so ago. 🥂💐
Just over a year ago I set up this elegant buttercream cake for Lexi and Michael @prestwoldhall . The stars of this cake were definitely the amazing flowers from @rubyandcoevents , and I had to attempt to capture the table set up in the room too as the flowers running along the centre of the table were even more amazing.
The flavours in this cake were classic flavours of Victoria sponge and Luscious Lemon.
KATE & PETER // Belated 1st anniversary wishes for a couple of weeks ago. 🥂💐
A super stylish buttercream cake with a crisp scalloped finish, decorated with the most colourful flowers and little Pokemon figures peeking out from the flowers.
Kate & Peter chose cake flavours of Pistachio & raspberry, Coffee & caramel and Luscious lemon.
MATT & LAURA // Very belated Happy 1st anniversary wishes for a few weeks ago. 🍾💐
Just over a year ago I had the pleasure of making this stylish wedding cake for Matt & Laura, with a combination of smooth buttercream and a rustic stripe. They chose cake flavours of Raspberry ripple & white chocolate, Coffee & caramel and Luscious Lemon.
JELLY BABIES, MINI EGGS & EMOJIS // Happy 1st anniversary to Rosie & Jason from a couple of weeks ago.
Their fun theme carried on inside the cake too. They opted for an Angel cake style but with orange, lemon and strawberry cake layers filled with silky smooth vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream.
Happy 1st anniversary to Faheema & Hassan.
Their beautiful three tier wedding cake with a floating top tier, was covered with drapes of navy blue fondant, edged with shimmery gold, and adorned with gorgeous fresh white roses and lisianthus. The flavours were classic Victoria sponge and, my personal favourite, orange & white chocolate.

Happy 1st anniversary to Hannah and Jake. All my very best wishes for many happy years to come.
This cake had classic flavours of lemon and chocolate and was finished with fabulous pink marbled fondant and highlights of edible gold leaf.
The cake topper was supplied by the couple.
Prepping these gorgeous fresh flowers from @fleursenfleur for one of last week's wedding cakes. Each flower is trimmed and it's stem wrapped before being added to the cake.
Hand-painted initials are a beautifully simple way to personalise your wedding cake. If you've had a monogram created for your wedding stationery, this can easily be recreated on your cake.
Many congratulations to Katie & Christopher on their 1st wedding anniversary today. 🥂💐
I loved their white on white design, and this lovely frame stencil was the perfect addition to their elegant style.
