Production is almost complete on my biggest project yet… 👀🤰🏼👶🏼
From saying goodbye to our sweet lil beach apartment, to moving across the country and navigating the physical and emotional whiplash that comes with pregnancy, the last seven months have been a wild ride.
My biggest takeaways:
🦸🏼♀️ Mothers are literal superheroes.
🥴 Culture massively underrepresents how hard pregnancy can be.

After 30-plus screenings, the results are in for this year’s Freehub PRESENTS Viewers’ Choice Award. We are proud to announce that “Trail to Bayanihan” has been voted the winner!
Directed by Cat Aeppel, “Trail to Bayanihan” documents freerider Sam Soriano’s journey through the Philippines in an effort to better understand her heritage. Immediately embraced by the local community, what transpired is a tale that proves mountain biking is more than just a sport; it is a catalyst that brings people together.
Congratulations to Cat, Sam, and everyone else involved with beautifully capturing the value of humanity in “Trail to Bayanihan.”
Additionally, we are excited to announce that Erika Kofler has been selected as the winner of our Viewers’ Submission Grand Prize! Erika attended the Pisgah Area SORBA PRESENTS screening event and, like many others, voted for “Trail to Bayanihan.”

We were doing well on our schedule for the day, and so when the sunset light and shadows started to dance across the studio floor, I decided—with the client’s blessing—to take 30 minutes to fully embrace this magical pocket of natural light. There’s something so exciting about getting creative with composition, angles and lighting!

2024. 🌱🦋
A year of intentional growth and meaningful moments. I focused on what truly mattered, slowed down, took on less, embraced the in-between, and gave more to the things that brought me joy.
I married my best friend. Ate our way through Italy to celebrate. Took my dad on a backpacking trip through the Sierras. Soaked up the Strait of Georgia at sunset after multiple missed ferries. Cooked sausages over a beach bonfire on Vancouver Island. Sang karaoke in the Philippines. Explored the country with a passionate crew of Filipino mountain bikers. Tried balut. Shot fast cars and motorcycles. Finally caught up on sleep. Healed nutritional deficiencies that had been holding me back. Collaborated with incredible humans who inspired me to show up as the best version of myself every day. Sowed the seeds for what will hopefully be some epic 2025 projects. Adopted the sweetest, silliest puppy. And captured stories that made me laugh, cry, and everything in between.
Grateful for a year of grounding, discovery, and unexpected beauty. On to 2025!
We often associate yoga with perfection: this desire to have the perfect form and move between poses in a way that is flawless. That’s why Sam’s outlook resonates so deeply with me. Life, like yoga, is messy and is meant to be playful and fun. A constant striving for perfection often leads to a loss of lightness, and Sam’s approach helps people rediscover the joy in both their yoga practice and their life.
In the spirit of joyful play, I rented some gorgeous vintage anamorphic glass from @vaultrentals and got creative with @annaburnsy & @sam.julia.gordon .

Sharing stories that matter. That is what first drove me to filmmaking. So when I had the opportunity last year to DP season 2 of “Love, Me” and capture the powerful stories of these amazing individuals who have come out the other side of mental health challenges, everything felt in alignment.
With our small crew of 3 - director @kellyateacher and 2nd shooter @jeek_prkr - we were welcomed into the homes and personal spaces of these beautiful humans to share the stories of their journeys. I walked away inspired by their vulnerability and pinching myself for getting to be apart of such an impactful project.

A collection of special moments from a 5-day rafting trip on the Snake River through Hells Canyon. Highlights included cowboy camping under the Milky Way, learning about the history of the land, cliff jumping, swimming rapids, bald eagles, rafting past bears seeking refuge from the heat, delicious meals enjoyed along the river banks, laughing with new friends, and overall a deep appreciation for the river and all the life it supports in this special place. @elisabethontheroad is working on an article about the adventure, which I will share upon release for anyone considering booking a trip of their own! Shot on assignment for @visitidaho with the support of @rowadventures . Drone footage captured outside the wild & scenic corridor.
