The fourth and final of @cast_ph ’s staged readings is “untitled f*ck m*ss s**gon play” by Kimber Lee, with performances by @jillianitaas , @kakkiness , @georgeschulze3 , @yanahlaurel , @fettuccinetwo , and @missusfab , and directed by @caisaborromeo . It tackles the power of representation in media, especially of Asians, and the importance of having our stories told well.
Before the fourth staged reading, audiences were treated to a bonus reading of a short play, “Seven Jewish Children: A Play for Gaza” by Caryl Churchill, with performances by Jaime Del Mundo, @topperfabregas , and @yulomenchu and directed by @gomez_nelsito . The play consists of seven scenes spread over decades in which Jewish parents discuss whether their children should be told about certain events in Jewish history.

The second of @cast_ph ’s staged readings is “Guards at the Taj” by Rajiv Joseph, with performances by @gomez_nelsito and @tarekeltayech and directed by Jaime Del Mundo. Set in 1648, the play follows the fates of two imperial guards forbidden to look upon the Taj Mahal and explores the caprices of power and the price of beauty.
Last Sunday, I caught the first installment of @cast_ph Staged Readings “Re-Orient: Narratives from Asian Voices,” which featured “English” by Sanaz Toossi. It was an interesting discourse on how identity is often so intertwined with the language by which it is communicated. That there is an imperceptible cost to having to do so in a tongue foreign to one’s own.
Stripped down, the writing and the narrative was front and center for the audience to lean into and digest. Director @sarah.facuri let her actors @iamjordanandrews , @mrs.mayenbcadd , @mikkievolante , @chayemoggie , and @jus.eats to hold space for every ounce of frustration, fear, hope, doubt, and joy that the characters experienced - allowing us to empathize and sympathize with them in equal measure.
Looks like the 2026 theater season is off to a great start. CAST’s Staged Readings runs for three more Sundays, featuring a new cast and play for each day.
