The interior of this Case Study 2.0 Altadena Fire Rebuild — The Butterfly House — has an amazingly open interior that lifts towards the stunning surrounding mountain and city views — this is only the 600 sqft ADU — but through the careful design we are able to create incredible expansion and lift with a remarkable casual indoor/outdoor California feel. We love the character of the roof structure floating in the room!

What is Case Study 2.0’s role in the construction of these homes? Case Study 2.0 is an initiative that brings together architects to design elevated, fire-resilient Standard Plan homes, which are showcased through the Case Study 2.0 catalogue. It does not provide construction services, pricing evaluation or guarantees, plan evaluation, or act as a party to contracts. Homeowners will contract directly with architects, engineers, and contractors. Learn more about Case Study 2.0 & how our program works at the link in our bio!

FAQ: What will be included in the plans? Plans will be developed into a “Standard Plan” set, which will be designed for approval by the governing agency. Once a Standard Plan is approved through the full permitting process, subsequent users of the same pre-approved plan can expect a more rapid property-specific approval. The Standard Plan, once fully developed, is expected to include: Architectural drawing set: 1. Site plan 2. Floor plans 3. Reflected ceiling plans 4. Finish plans 5. Power plans 6. Elevations 7. Sections 8. Interior Elevations 9. Details 10. Schedules (window, door, power, equipment, finish, lighting) Architectural specifications: 1. Interior finishes 2. Built-in cabinetry (minimum required: kitchen and bathroom millworker interior elevations) 3. Plumbing fixtures 4. Door hardware (interior and exterior) 5. Lighting specifications Note: Refer to your contract directly with the architect for a precise list of plans and specifications to be provided. Our SPARCHS team is excited to introduce our newest addition to the @case_study2.0 family — these clients purchased our Case Study 2.0 package deal for the Butterfly House and made a host of terrific modifications! This 1550sqft 2bdrm 2-1/2 bath home and 1bdrm 1ba attached JADU offers enormous flexibility (including a 1 to 2 car garage instead of the JADU or in total can be a 3bdrm 3 1/2 bath home). The design features a dynamic Ridge Valley Butterfly roof design with our signature “twist” gesturing towards the surrounding Mountain Views bringing in beautiful North East light. Fully fire-resistant with a unique Passive House design alongside a wonderful rear-yard courtyard and spacious 2nd story deck! Moreover: This is designed perfectly for an SB9 Lot split design — 2 twin houses that create a fantastic community all in one. We of course absolutely love the fabulous contemporary new mid-century design vibe that recalls the work of R.M. Schindler, Bill Turnbull, Charles Moore, Barbara Stauffacher and Frank Israel — Definitely not another white/beige painted modern box! And yes — pre-approved plans coming soon! A big shout out to our SPARCHS team — Kai Chen, Henry Soria, and Alexa Vasquez! 🙌🙌🙌
