Over two decades since the legendary photographerâs passing, and the Avedon legacy is staying strong.
In between the late â70s and mid â80s, Richard Avedon spent five years traveling the US, passing through 21 states. But instead of the usual high-profile politician or adored fashion model, it was the middle-of-the-road American that became the focus of his camera. 17,000 sheets of film later, and Avedon had captured what would later become titled âIn the American West,â an exhibition and book which lends his signature stark black-and-white style to cowboys, miners, and country fair goers.
Today, the baton has been passed onto the new generation, as granddaughter
@carolineavedon brings these prints to a new audience. Working as Archivist at the
@avedonfoundation , Caroline has curated âFacing Westâ an exhibition of 21 rarely-shown prints from the series, on nowÂ
@gagosian in London until March 14.
To mark the occasion, Caroline took Wonderland along with her for the opening night â last minute placing and celebratory Guinness pint included.
