Hi All! This is an update since I’ve dropped off here, and also a utilitarian post… I’ve been receiving DMs from time to time, and wanted to let people know that I am mostly not active on insta, or any social media for about 3 years now. Usually it is not installed on my devices. So I don’t get your messages or see your tags. Please do reach out via email or text (if you’ve got my #,) I’d love to hear from you! That said, a last update for anyone who cares—- I teach at Portland state university in Sonic Arts, Elliot and I are still together, I’m non-binary, I had a brutal stretch of Long Covid but I’m mostly fine now, I’m writing an opera for New Wave Opera, I’ve starting playing and co-composing again with @alexandriasmithmusic , some witchy science-y deep sea songwritery stuff, and keeping up with Pacific NW stuff through a newsletter started up by @kimpositions (Kim Osberg), specifically because so many people are leaving social media. I do want to hear from you, and know up what you’re up to, feel free to add me to your newsletters, email, etc. that’s all, bye! (and hope to see you at some gatherings, festivals, hangouts, etc ! )

Escape the heat outside and come by to experience the immersive (and air-conditioned) multimedia installation, “Here There: (Re)collecting Labor on the American Railway” “A train has a poor memory; it soon puts all behind it.” - Ray Bradbury, The Lake Here There is an immersive multimedia installation exploring complex historical relationships among labor, industrial infrastructure, and collective memory through an examination of three significant Transcontinental Railroad sites in Northern California: Donner Pass, Bloomer Cut, and Roseville Train Yard. The project weaves together film spanning both coasts, archival materials, audio interviews, field recordings, and a chamber orchestra score. Here There creates a dance between the everyday and the epic, past and present, noise and silence. The work is a collaboration between UNCW Professor Stefani Bryd @stefanibyrdstudio , Composer Caroline Louise Miller @carocomposes , and world-renowned contemporary music ensemble Alarm Will Sound @alarmwillsound . Mark your calendars for the reception for this exhibition on Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 5:30 p.m. - 7 p.m. with an artist talk before the reception at 5 p.m. in UNCW’s Cultural Arts Building, Room 2033. The exhibition will be on view until Thursday, August 28, 2024.

It's the end of my first year teaching in person at Portland State, and my second spring in the city of Portland. After the longing, mourning, and loss of the winter 2021 lockdowns, it was a joy to organize a festival and songwriting concert for my persistent and imaginative students, who brought their absolute best to the show and to each other's songs in collaboration. I even got to jam on theremin on one of the songs! It was amazing to Collab with Solomon Weisbard @solweisbard on the lighting for this show; pairing student songwriters with student lighting designers resulted in some amazing show vibes. I also recently had the joy of seeing (well, hearing through the rumble beneath my feet) my friend Steve Lewis @chopinois play the organ in Pines of Rome with the Oregon symphony, and a beautiful benefit concert for @columbiariverkeeper with my colleague Rory Cowal performing solo piano music by local composers. It is completely sappy, but my heart is full... Like actually, really full. I would never just say that. Thanks to all my musician friends, colleagues, students, and community for your dedication, creativity, and kindness.

East facing house near field/park means lots of double and triple rainbow views in the evening.

Weekend trip to Astoria, obligatorily watched Goonies (never seen it) during a vicious hailstorm that had the electricity flickering

Throwback to late June, when we drove our Prius C up the sketchiest washed out road in order to reach three turquoise Alpine lakes via a trail that was snowy and partly a waterfall, and because of it being early summer we were pretty much the only people there.
