Let me introduce myself… My name is Carmen and I’m one of the funniest people I know. I’m a multi-hyphenate artist: actress, writer, improviser and executive coach. I’m many things and have a tendency to be a label rejector (unless it’s hot, talented, smart, hilarious, or a number of other complimentary adjectives.) I am a cosmic being in a flesh onesie. Side note: I AM is one of the most powerful mantras and our identity shapes so much of how we experience this human experience. End side note. I’ve been marinating a lot on who I am, what I am, and why I am here on Spaceship Earth at this point in time and space. Since I was cute, little Carmen with ole’ bangs, I remember feeling like I was here to do BIG SHIT. That there was GREATNESS inside of me. Second side note: My first professional job was dancing with Debbie Allen when I was 16. The hottie lead of the show, Rasta Thomas, wore a shirt that said “being good isn’t enough, when you dream of being great.” It stuck with me. End second side note. I’ve gone over the river and through the woods: substance abuse, no self-worth or self-respect, essentially giving up on my dreams, money issues, playing small, loving men who didn’t love me back… YES…It has come to my realization that all of my suffering came from seeking love outside of myself. AND now she’s found a practice of coming back home. I’m on a committed path to becoming the woman I always knew was inside me and creating a life that makes my panties tingle. The only thing harder than pursuing your dreams is NOT. I know this from experience. My intention is to continue to grow, expand, and shine brighter, and in doing so…light the way for others to do the same. To live in my genius and continue the process of mastery as an artist and individual. Of course, in the most playful way: filled with perfect health, prosperity, panty-tingles and lots of laughter. “The only thing harder than pursuing your dreams… is NOT” Yes, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. And, what if it gets to be easy?! Fun fact: There is a seven year period that I left LA and have “given up” on my acting career. I continued to act, but I was not pursuing a professional career in entertainment. I was selling cars in Texas and doing theatre, sat on the board of a theatre, and doing local commercials. I remember very vividly one day walking around the car lot and thinking “what if I didn’t actually ruin my chances?” Through a series of events and synchronicities I ended up back in LA. It wasn’t really a plan. It was, and continues to be, a calling. We all have ideas, nudges, things that desire to be birthed and ways of being that stir inside of us wanting to be brought into the physical world. This is how I feel about dreams…It’s harder not to do the thing. I “gave up” and ended up back here. One of my acting coaches said “you never cross the same river twice, you change and the river changes.” So here we are… We get to choose what we believe, what we focus on, and ultimately what we create. So glad I did. *Became on official Certified Badass from aforementioned ride. 🌟First time as a guest speaker at a major university *I was invited to speak to a class of entrepreneurs at USC on Tuesday. Said “yes, and” and spoke the next day. *Grateful for the way The Art of Play has prepared me to “yes,and” opportunity when it presents itself. 🌟First time back as a YoungStorytellers mentor in years. *I got to mentor the absolute coolest 5th grader. Why I outta… Self-talk but make it PLAY & 1930s Gangsta. Self-talk is actually a critical tool and skill for our mental health, well-being, and how we experience life. It affects how we maximize our potential and the results we achieve. Worth checking out: Dr. Shad Helmstetter, who started the Self-talk Institute, has a book called What to Say When You Talk to Yourself. One of my recent reframes is calling negative thought patterns and limiting beliefs SILLY GOOSE THOUGHTS. It makes me laugh and takes their power away. U is for Unapologetically Wooo! I am woo and I will not apologize. So often I hear “not to be woo, but…” I say..be woo, boo! If that’s true to you. True story, I recently got a psychic reading from a dog. 1: The dog said that my dog needed a bath. The next day for the first time in a year and a half at doggie hangout, he got so muddy I had to give him a bath afterwards. 2: The dog said that I needed to clean out my fridge. I did this that week and it felt SO FREAKING GOOD. I was like “dang, dawg you were right. It’s also one of my favorite analogies for letting go of old, limiting beliefs before being able to fully and effectively brainwash yourself with new beliefs. *You wouldn’t go out and buy a bunch of beautiful, fresh produce and put it on top of old, rotting food in the fridge. 🤟🏾🙌🏾 3: The dog said that I wanted to have a baby, but the man I was dating wasn’t it. I knew this when we started dating. He had 2 children and was done. I want to have my own family and build a life with my person. He is a wonderful person, I enjoyed our time together and will always be grateful for that experience. AND that same night, at the end of a date, he said something and I knew our time was complete. Can’t make this stuff up, y’all! Yes, this is my life. AND, I’m loving it. Love for you to come PLAY with me.
