As part of the International Biennial of Contemporary Art (BIAC) and @caribbeanlinked collaboration in Martinique, supported by the European fund @interregcaraibes , the @cca_martinique Campus Caraïbéen des Arts in partnership with @ctm_martinique , and @ateliers89 in Aruba, the exhibition “TRANS-SISTORS” will run from October 7 to November 6, 2023, at the La Véranda Gallery of the @tropiquesatrium , Scène Nationale in Fort de France, Martinique.
This exhibition is produced under the curatorship of Elvis Lopez, Director of Ateliers ’89 and a visual artist from Aruba. Four young artists from the Caribbean: Franz Caba @franz_caba (Dominican Republic), Taisha Carrington @taisha_carrington (Barbados), Shamika Germain @shamikaermaine (St. Martin) and Brice Lautric @bricelautric_art (Guadeloupe), will exhibit the work they produced as part of the Caribbean Linked artist residency exchange which took place in Martinique and Aruba between April and September.

As part of the Caribbean Linked partnership with BIAC-Réseaux, we are delighted that Dominican artist, Franz Caba @franz_caba has recently arrived in Martinique to begin his 4-week residency generously hosted by Le Pointe Rouge @latelierlepointrougemartinique .
An alumna of the Caribbean Linked residency programme established in 2012 and supporting over 60 artists, writers, and curators at Ateliers ‘89, Franz is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist and Dominican architect who graduated from the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo. Through drawing, painting and installation, he explores the problems that arise from the relationship between the body, objects and space. He has participated in different national and international exhibitions, including the artist residency Caribbean Linked V in 2018. He currently lives and works in Santo Domingo.
This intra-Caribbean residency project is supported by the EU funds Interreg Caraïbes @interregcaraibes , the Collectivité Territoriale de Martinique (CTM) @ctm_martinique , and Campus Caraïbéen des Arts (CCA) @cca_martinique with Fresh Milk @freshmilkbarbados as one of the co-founders of Caribbean Linked.

Artist statement:
Taisha is a multidisciplinary artist working in performance, installation and sculpture. Born in Barbados, she focuses on place making, adaptation and choices that drive immigration while proposing methods for reimagining the value of Caribbean people and communities.
Her most recent body of work focuses on the pursuit of autonomy and self-actualization amid the sociopolitical environment, climate crisis and histories that shape current affairs of the Caribbean.
Through her work she aims to provide an access point for those outside of the region to have insight into life in the Caribbean beyond the images crafted by colonialism or tourism.

Taisha Carrington continues her engagement with small groups of CCA students who are making studio visits this week and next week.
Today, they asked questions regarding her creation process, the challenges she faced while she was an art student and her post-art school experience working professionally in the arts.
Thanks again to May Clemente of CCA for coordinating these studio visits allowing current art students to witness practicing artists within the Caribbean and to see the future possibilities for themselves in the visual arts sector.

Taisha graduated from Pratt Institute in 2018 with a BFA in Jewelry Design. Her awards include the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s CFDA+ Design Graduate, NYC Jewelry Week’s One For The Future award, and Art Jewelry Forum’s Young Artist Award Finalist 2022. Her work is in the collections of The Dallas Museum of Art and Montreal’s Stewart Program for Modern Design.
