Full moon in Aruba beautifully marks the end of the first of two weeks of my lecture series about the margins of film history. Who are the pioneers of filmmaking that were left out of the canon? Who were the women and independent POC filmmakers who investigated abortion and birth control, who exposed racist stereotyping representation in mainstream, including black face, more than one hundred years ago? And what experimental techniques were introduced that were directly related to social, class struggles at the time and the fight for visibility for LGBTQIA+ communities? How did film engage with the move away from capitalist mainstream to a constructivist approach to the cinematic apparatus in the newly born Soviet Union? Revisiting universal history through a cinematic lens we engage in dialogue about how film documents the reality of its moment of production and inhabits the spirit of its time. Next week we will be watching and discussing feminist documentary filmmaking and propaganda, essay film and structuralist cinema, among other pioneering audiovisual production that are still influencing contemporary artistic creation. Come and join us @ateliers89 @mondriaanfonds

𝙊𝙉𝙇𝙄𝙉𝙀 𝘾𝙍𝙀𝘼𝙏𝙄𝙑𝙀 𝙒𝙍𝙄𝙏𝙄𝙉𝙂 𝙒𝙊𝙍𝙆𝙎𝙃𝙊𝙋 🧠 With JIMENA CASAS and ISABEL WANG PONTOPPIDAN: 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙋𝙇𝙐𝙍𝘼𝙇𝙄𝙏𝙔 𝙊𝙁 𝙒𝙊𝙍𝘿𝙎 If you have always wanted to write or are creative with language in some other way, then this is the workshop for you! Jimena and Isabel encourage everyone to find their own way of writing, and offer tools to approach this from their own style. At the beginning of the workshop we will practice how to use words to evoke images. We then start working with language and words as material. We will cut, make collages, edit texts. We create, as it were, visual landscapes with words. During the course of the workshop we invite several languages. Together we look at the idea of multilingual texts, translating texts, where words are converted from one language to another. Finally, we will investigate with Jimena and Isabel what our bodies do with our texts. Do these possibly change when spoken? The workshop ends with an online meeting in which the texts are shared and with the publication of an online Zine and sound archive. The workshop is online and delivered in English, but everyone is welcome and encouraged to write in other languages. No prior experience is necessary, just a desire to explore writing. After you are registered, you will receive a zoomlink for participation. [email protected] +297 - 5603589
