There are people who walk into a room and take up space and then there are people who charge up the room with enough kinetic energy to propel everyone into space. Watching @khenghua these past two weeks has been exactly that. Her hunger for “being better”. The generosity with which she shares. Her fierce belief that stories matter. That people matter. That growth is possible at every stage of life and career. It’s infectious in the best way possible. Mama Kheng just brings out the best in people. She always leaves me wanting to make better things. Braver things.

A sublime straw smoked aged beef short ribs on bbq experience. Accented by the freshest beef tartare and wide range of pickles and sauces. The plumpest pieces of ox tongue I’ve ever had. I can still smell the char when I close my eyes. Some of the best meats I’ve ever had. Ugh. Bring me back quick!
And I know it may seem like you won’t be able to do fried rice after bbq but you can. Trust me.

The neighbourhood is full of quiet surprises. Turned the corner to the tiniest bookstore @1joy1sorrow where the owner even made us some tea. We were his first Singaporean customers ever!! Of course we had to buy some books we couldn’t read! ♥️
A whole house turned into a vibey chocolate cafe @guau_chocolat . And we followed our noses to the salted butter bread @gimnyeongbbangzib .

The highlight of our Jeju trip was to be able to witness the Haenyeos in action. While we barely survived climbing down and up the cliff to see them, they performed, free-dived, cleaned abalones, cooked, cleaned, did table side service still in their goggles and wetsuit and still had time for a smile. They are just going about their lives the same way they have always known, from a time where people made their ways even when they had very little means. No complains just pure action. They moved with such energy, levity and purpose. These women raised a generation on pure grit, connection with and respect for nature and courage to challenge the status quo. I am so grateful to be able to see them in my lifetime.

First gig of 2025 and I couldn’t have asked for a better landing! Had the honour of being on panel at the inaugural #KopiWithKheng @nacsingapore with these beautiful beings. I made some new (young) friends and reconnected with some old (wiser) friends. I am reminded of the strength we have in this kampong where we can share, play, learn and lean on one another. We are never alone in this journey, if only we just take the time to jio for kopi.

Whilst i was in Singapore i wanted to visit this optical shop owned by the family of my friend @captainling They had some original frames from the 70/80’s era and i wanted a pair.. located in the heartland along Balestier road i had a great time with Aunty and Uncle helping me with my selection. The lens are hand dyed by Aunty and she is also kind in compliments 🤗 I should’ve gotten those Pucci 70’s frames.. i can always go back! Thank you @limseahsengoptical
