In German, Traum means dream, Trauma a wound. One letter separates imagination from flesh. The work exists in this gap—where a dream becomes body. It was not the first time a scalpel crossed my skin, but it was the first time I chose it. After years of therapy, fear, and waiting, I made a decision that marked a second birth. I am Captain John, a non-binary photographer based in Berlin. My body is a shifting form, already present beneath the surface, insisting on becoming visible. Physical change is only the threshold; the real transition happens in the gaze, where a body is read and inhabited. Photography becomes a survival tool—an act of witnessing through diary and phototherapy. TRAUM(a) is an archive of transition: a refusal of fixed identity, a space where the body is always emerging. • In Mexico City, I encounter Adgehovah DG, a conceptual artist who lives as a “puppy” and embodies fluid, non-normative forms of identity. Their domestic space is dense and intimate, mixing everyday objects, family relics, and aesthetic codes. Nothing is separated into categories: identity, fetish, and lived experience coexist. They resist explanation rather than offering it. The real passage happens in the gaze, where a body is inhabited and it is read. Photography accompanies this process.
