Absolute chaos at Mornington Pier Tuesday morning for the start of the FISH ON! Kids School Holiday Clinics.
Massive school of juvenile snapper (pinkies) pushed right up on the surface, and the local seal just sitting there picking them off one by one. Nature doing its thing.
Autumn’s a funny time… bigger fish start to move on outside as temps drop, but these smaller pinkies hang around in numbers. Plenty of bait still in the system, cooler water, less pressure… they’re happy cruising the shallows and schooling up tight.
Good reminder… just because the “season slows”, doesn’t mean there’s nothing going on.

2025 was light on proper target-species missions. Still managed a nice Pier fish, pulled an early-season Maribyrnong lurker deep beyond the city, and scored a few half decent fish on plastics in Port Phillip. Opened with a solid fish on bait first ever session and logged a semi-donut day in Western Port. It was good to land them across different techniques and terrains. The Sydney to Melbourne transition has been BIG. 2026 is the year this washed-up Greybeard gets back into the elements and get SHIT done… BRRRRRR!! @hot_tackle@themadhueys
Caught a bunch of land-based Argy’s fishing alone recently. Can’t catch a really really big one to save my life though. I also can’t take a quality selfie. Here’s a couple that I was lucky to have a bystander take. I don’t fish with friends. Friends are bad luck…Hahaa!! Bring on the Winter RRRRRRRedzzzz…BRRRRRR!!
