A nice moment to share the trailer of my short film ‘El Zonda’, a day after being notified that it was selected among the top shorts from the Paolo Sorrentino film lab to receive specialised distribution from the team at @playlab_films I won’t soon forget Paolo sitting next to me with headphones on, smoking a cigar and cackling as he watched this scene on my laptop in Patagonia and offered me his hand to shake. You Can’t See Speed created with Tina Stefanou and blind dirt bike rider/mechanic Matthew Cassar is a project years in the making. Through stories, movement and riding, we explored what Matthew calls “blind vision”: a multi-tactile, sonic way of sensing the world. Greek and Australian, human and horse, visioned and non-visioned with a humming dirt bike at its heart. It was a joy to shoot across 16mm, 8mm and digital to feel how each format speaks differently. A while back, I worked on a film with @vengia , @danielle_despina , @amos.katie , and others to make a film inspired by Ovid’s Medusa myth. The film tells the story of a bride’s cross-continental journey to marry a man she has never met. Entirely in Greek and shot over the back half of Covid, it’s been a journey. It’s up for Best Short Film 2025 at the AACTAs— I know ~ oh là là! It’s a voting thing, so if you are a member, please consider giving this bad boy a vote. Φιλιά, Petra ❤️
