We had the immense honor of sharing the stage with @hernandezfloreslaura whose powerful voice and presence gave soul and depth to every moment. And by her side, the amazing Uruguayan pianist @manucontrera , whose music took us all on a journey. 🎤🎹🔥 This project is more than a concert... it’s a celebration of our Afro-Latin American roots, a cultural bridge between continents, and another step in our mission to bring candombe to life here in Copenhagen. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who made this night possible and to the incredible audience who danced, clapped, and sang with us. About candombe: Candombe is a South American cultural manifestation, originally from Montevideo, Uruguay, related primarily to drumming. It has a significant role in the culture of the Río de la Plata in the last two hundred years, with Montevideo candombe being recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Musicians: - Mariano Babsky (AR) – Piano / Keyboard: Pianist based in Copenhagen, exploring Afro-Latin rhythms through contemporary harmony and improvisation. - Juan Ignacio Elvira (AR) – Percussion (tambor piano) : Percussionist specializing in Afro-Uruguayan Candombe, focusing on rhythm as a collective and expressive force. The Latin American candombe culture is finally taking root in Copenhagen. This is largely thanks to the music community Candombe DK, which has delivered several sold-out concerts with special Afro-Latino rhythms as its focal point. They return to Copenhagen Jazz Festival - this time with the project The Woman Who Sings the Drum, featuring the renowned Cuban singer Laura Flores who is recognized as the female voice of candombe in Europe, and will perform alongside the talented Uruguayan pianist Manu Contrera and the lively band Candombe DK. It will be an unforgettable musical journey that blends the harmonies of jazz with the groove of candombe. Cuero CUERO is a Copenhagen-based band that explores an innovative fusion of Afro-Uruguayan Candombe with jazz, funk, and urban music. Their sound pays tribute to the rich heritage of Candombe, while also highlighting its ongoing evolution and its influence on global contemporary genres. Through rhythm and improvisation, Cuero creates a vibrant musical dialogue between tradition and modernity - celebrating the drum not only as an instrument, but as a living symbol of memory, resistance, and community. To close the event, CandombeDK will fill the streets with the pulse of live drums: A powerful and joyful celebration of Afro-Uruguayan culture in motion. Dpb In Dub Pirata Boing is one of the freshest singer-songwriters and producer of the new breed of Latin urban music, reggae, electro dub, global bass. After several years in Barcelona producing, composing and working for many artists, Pirata Boing has now started his solo project Dpb In Dub. He has lived in Brazil, Sweden, Spain and Uruguay and is now based in Finland where he has his band and studio. 48TIMER Festival The concert is part of 48TIMER Festival – a cultural festival that turns Nørrebro inside out. The festival is supported by the Municipality of Copenhagen, Nørrebro Local Committee and the William Demant Foundation. 48TIMER Festival is a collaboration between the Association of Blågårds Plads, Blågårds Apotek, Blågården, Union, Osramhuset and Nørrebrohallen.
