These are my thoughts. As we move into a post-conflict generation, it’s important not to lose sight of the fact that this kind of hate has been around long before the events of this week and the past few years. It is systemic and it is culturally embedded. Ireland is not all Guinness, GAA shorts and softbois with mullets - and if you’re claiming your cultural identity as Irish, you must be prepared to take responsibility for this part of it too.
