Spent the last 10 days driving and camping around the North of Portugal, listening and recording in the mountains, valleys, olive fields, caves, abandoned quarries, rivers and waterfalls whilst being eaten alive by insects.
Pictures above are from some of the beautiful locations from Gerês to Trás-os-Montes.
Been making a lot of my own libraries for sound design projects recently, something I'm always meaning to do more of when I've got the time... Playing with electronics, going out field recording, manipulating objects...
Little clip of some glitchy data/processing type sounds, blending wavetables with heavy modulation on the @synthesistechnology E352
Trying to work through small ideas without overthinking too much at the moment, it's been a few years since I spent any time just exploring sounds and seeing where they lead with no intention or objective.
Part of this has been exploring more sources outside of pure synthesis and instruments.
Audio here is of grasshoppers, insects, birds and wind in London a couple of days ago, chopped n screwed via @addacsystem 's addac112
Spent way too much time working on stochastic polymetric percussion patches like this over the years after hearing certain works by Xenakis.
Sound is all from the modular, no physical modelling, sequenced by @oxiinstruments via @expertsleepers and based on a set of ratios from an Erv Wilson 7-limit scale.
Starting the week calmly with 4 justly-intoned phasing voices out of the La Monte Young handbook. Thanks to @expertsleepers / MTS-ESP integration for finally making non-standard tuning systems so straight forward to use in the hardware domain...
Thanks to all who came out on a miserable Saturday night the other week to listen to me and @odbpowell in 16.4 at @iklectikartlab

Glad to hear work I made a while back with @benvince91 and @valentina_magaletti was given some new life recently, being used by the Bavarian State Ballet as part of their Sphären.01 performances. Can’t say I’ve got fond memories of Munich after being stripped naked in a police cell on arrival 15 years ago, but thanks for trying to make it up.
A Darkness Shimmering in the Light.
New work with Liu Yujia on show now at Tang Contemporary Art in Beijing. These excerpts are from the full hour long film from which the exhibition takes its title, alongside 6 other works. Music, sound design and mix by yours truly.
