DESIGN AND (SELF) CONFIDENCE
Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino @designswarm
7:30pm Tue 19 May
The Blue Moon, Cambridge @cambridgebluemoon
A career in design has never offered a straight path.
Right now, that uncertainty feels sharper than ever. AI is reshaping the industry, and an entire generation of designers is facing their first major disruption.
At our next talk, Alexandra Deschamps-Sonsino draws on nearly two decades in the field to explore what it really means to stay grounded when the ground keeps moving.
From the trap of the saviour complex to process as anxiety management, she asks whether confidence might have less to do with skills than we think.

What a lovely opportunity to be invited to engage in… so beautifully curated, I felt like I was guided yet given space. Thank you @nabil.ali.creative for sharing your self and your studies, for inspiring @cam_colours to carefully bring innovators and creators together to build on colouring in Cambridge tomorrow… What did we plant? What are we nurturing? Let’s see what happens next! I’m excited! Thank you @cam_colours for such a fabulous afternoon and @camcreatives for supporting the collaboration ☺️ If you attended and haven’t connected with me, please do as I had to leave early to teach a workshop and missed the opportunity to link up with some of you…

About the talk
Tim Brookes has spent seventeen years carving letters in wood mostly letters from writing systems the world is at risk of losing.
He is the founder of the Endangered Alphabets Project, a long-running body of work that documents and preserves minority scripts from around the globe.
In this talk, he'll speak about his practice, how it began, how it has evolved, and what seventeen years of working with wood and language has taught him about craft, patience, and why certain forms of knowledge are worth preserving.
It's a talk for anyone interested in making, lettering, language, or the quieter end of what art can do.
