my nephew arlo has been creating with clay since he was tiny. his bedroom shelves are full of little creatures and their christmas tree is adorned with custom clay ornaments. some of them even live with me here in new mexico, many miles away from arlo. I see how his art allows him the space to regulate and find presence, and like he said, peace.
there is such tenderness and beauty in these seemingly mundane moments. the people we share our time with, the questions we ask each other, the way we choose to express our deep feelings…it all shapes us like little clay creatures. there are infinite parts of ourselves that others will never understand, but those parts are our own to know and treasure. i hope that you can find peace in the treasure of your own presence too 🤍

I can’t really put into words the way that this portrait session changed me. Sapna reached out to me to photograph her and Aaron’s 5 year wedding anniversary in Taos. She trusted my vision from the start, which to me is the #1 indicator that it’s going to be a magical session. This was my first photoshoot after an abrupt end to a nearly seven year career that I really cared about. The grieving journey has asked so much of me and has honestly made me question myself and my art. It feels extra vulnerable to create from that place. You really can’t predict what else will come to the surface when you get into that creative zone but I followed the invitation nonetheless.
Turns out it was the easiest, most brilliant, raw and honest session in my entire career. I found myself in the presence of something so divine and real. S+A were together in the present, celebrating, grieving and honoring their love. I didn’t need to pose or direct them, I just followed their lead. Their hearts felt in perfect unison to the sky, sun, moon and mountains. It felt like a sacred dance.
I feel really proud and excited about the photographs themselves, but most of all I feel a restored and deepened connection to my vision. I feel really honored that two souls could feel so safe to be in such a raw and vulnerable place with me.
To me, the creation of art naturally changes the artist, even if it’s completely subconscious. The process is what transforms and evolves us, not the end product itself. It’s both exhausting and profound. All that to say I am grateful for it all and excited to photograph more humans in the new year. Let’s hold close what is real and honest in a world that feels increasingly artificial. 🕯️🤎
