Ginhawa: Breathing a Shared Practice – Filipino Printmakers Artist Panel
Location: SHIFT Centre for Social Transformation (
@shiftconcordia ) , 1400 Blvd. De Maisonneuve Ouest LB 145
This artist talk brings together Carlo Calope (
@calope_papi ) , Melanie Garcia (
@_melanie_garcia ) , and Mia Cataquiz, artists of Filipino descent who met in Print Media at Concordia University. Drawing on ginhawa and kapwa, they explore how diasporic experience shapes approaches to material, authorship, and collective care.
They discuss their engagement with anitos—precolonial ancestral and nature spirits—and how these inform a view of print as relational, embodied, and in circulation. Through personal narratives and shared methods, their work addresses memory, hybridity, and belonging.
Moderated by Deann Louise Nardo (
@friedchickenvixen ), Director of Arts and Culture at Centre Kapwa (
@centrekapwa ) , a non-profit organization decolonizing Filipinx-Canadian diaspora mental health and wellness through Art, Movement, and Conversations.
