We are still buzzing from our CAM 2026 Opening and Closing Town Halls, which featured Ann Burroughs, Rick Kaz Noguchi, and Todd Lerew. Here are just a few of the thoughtful and inspiring remarks, questions and topics that were covered. Our keynote speakers really helped us dive deeper into the conference theme Reframing, giving us practical ideas, and fresh new perspectives.
What stood out most to you?
Please join us in welcoming Kevin McGarry as CAMâs newly elected Board President! With 15+ years in public history and a deep commitment to education and community engagement, weâre excited for his leadership as we continue to serve Californiaâs museum community.
Last week our Executive Director Dr. Rachel M. Miller was joined at @CalMuseums annual conference by the wonderful Felicia Van Stolk, Executive Director of @SantaCruzMuseum , and Melissa Jones, Public Programs Manager of the @SanDiegoHistoryCenter . Moderated by the Museum's Marketing & Events Manager Noelle Fletcher, the panel presented three case studies demonstrating how small museums can make huge strides to benefit their communities through partnerships, creativity, and building public trust. In a packed room, they spoke and answered questions about their experiences with their respective museums and how theyâve met modern challenges of smaller budgets, constrained spaces, and limited staff head-on with solutions rooted in the strength their institutions already possessed.
It was a fantastic talk and a joy to get to partner with two amazing museum professionals to discuss what makes our organizations so special. It was also wonderful to meet other museum staff, hear that the talk resonated with them, and to know that as hard a year as it's been for most museums, no one is ever alone in their struggles and successes, and there are so many excellent professionals working to create welcoming, safe, educational, fun spaces for everyone in their community. We'd like to say a huge thanks to CAM for the opportunity and to Melissa and Felicia for being such insightful and wonderful co-panelists!
