Call Me Unique

There’s too many highlights to fit into one post (THANK YOU @m.uuya ), but I wanted to share some of my favorite, most spontaneous moments from our penultimate event at the amazing @hockleysocialclub last Friday. From my dad @trevb21 joining us for a tune, to the whole lineup (planned & spontaneous) just the way TUX has always been… It hasn’t sunk in yet that HSC won’t be around next year… so to honor its impact on my life and the incredible creatives who joined us on and off stage, we celebrated TUX one last time in the best way possible… With lengthy speeches about how much I adore everyone and long, heartfelt rant… mixed in with a batch of moments with some of the most talented and beautiful people in my life. What an honour to have been a part of HSC’s legacy… I couldn’t thank @james.pbr @jackeb83 more for believing in me and pushing me out of my comfort zone of being “just a singer” +10 years ago! There would be no @cmuevents if it wasn’t for you! ❤️ What an insane journey! From my house parties (with far too many people crammed into an apartment) in Handsworth at 18years old… to curating, hosting & managing a whole company with a team of @s_lints_ @muuya @sqwzalmarriott @emmyjmck @simon_meikle @reubzmusic & many more that have supported its growth and evolution. The endless WhatsApp groups, never-ending hugs & unforgettable moments spent with SO MANY people for the last +10 YEARS of my life. From food traders (special shoutout @wmjcfood ), bar staff & managers, sound & lighting team, musicians, artists, DJ’s, AUDIENCE MEMBERS THAT LET ME HECKLE THEM INTO JOINING ME ON STAGE!! (too many for me to tag!) And YOU… the people I got to meet along the way that turned up EVERY SINGLE FRIDAY for the past +2years with open arms & beautiful energy. It is IMPOSSIBLE for me to keep this post short. There’s too much that occurred for me to hold it into a short & sweet message. So… Just like my rants in person… I NEED you to know that I love you. That this mattered more than you’d ever know. Last year (Nov 2024) I had the privilege of performing such a wonderful solo show for @sofarcov ! There is NOTHING LIKE Sofar, truly some of the most intimate, supportive and [pun intended] Unique people gathered to enjoy the vibes. RESPIRAL 🌀 What an honour to be part of such an ethereal moment... I’ve ALWAYS felt honoured and privileged to work with @novan_the_one - his heart, mind and creative vision are like no other. No one else draws from me what I can only describe as “my ancestors speaking through me, the heavens opening and an experience occurs that goes far beyond just music” 🧘🏾‍♀️ If you were there, you know just how magical that evening truly was. Even more so with @martonkopcsik weaving in layers of soundscapes I never anticipated, layers that brought me to tears. Every time I think I couldn’t love Budapest any more, there it goes again - filling my heart with another song, another memory and another reason to say “I love you.” ❤️ What a journey. What a time (especially given the political tension that was in the air, what a momental time to be in Hungary). What well timed opportunity to bring people together and remind eachother just how truly beautiful the human experience can be 🤍 Speaking of beauty, a huge shoutout to @artofpapp for his breathtaking neon artwork that transformed the room… I felt like I was in a scene from Avatar! 🌀 What an experience! Can’t find words for this. It was truly a dream coming to life. Merging my songs for acoustic piano with crazy ideas of @martonkopcsik fusing it with live effects, electronic beats and all this with the soul of @callmeunique blending in and becoming one with the crowd. With the help of @artofpapp and playing 360• I felt we are both at a concert and a psychedelic music festival. Ezt a videót karácsony körül vettük fel Call Me Unique-al nálam. Kevés szó esett róla, de most szombaton, Április 11-én ő is beszáll a ReSpiral nevű koncertre a fonóban. Egy spontán beszélgetés után rájöttünk, hogy mindkettőnk egyik kedvenc száma a teardrops a massive attack-től, de még sosem játszottuk sehol. Gyorsan berendeztük a szobát és eljátszottuk a saját verziónkat. Nem igazán emlékezett egyikőnk sem a számra, hogy “kéne” pontosan játszani, de ehelyett született valami teljesen új dolog belőle. Ezután megkérdeztem, nincs-e kedve beszállni áprilisban egy koncert erejéig, ha erre jár. Több számot és spontán improvizációt is felvettünk, arra meg külön büszke vagyok, hogy saját kezüleg vettük fel, Ákos Huszár aka DJ Bindzsisz Kán segítségével kevertük meg, és Unique Brown vágta és effektezte a videót. A koncert egy mélyvízi repülés lesz mindannyiunknak, mert minden a pillanatban születik majd. Várunk haza, Unique!!!!
