Essentially Fieldwork is a low stakes way to hold yourself accountable to your art practice — a framework for artists of all disciplines to: play! experiment! fail! collaborate! and most importantly, give and receive structured feedback! I love fieldwork for the artistic camaraderie, (soft) weekly deadline, and the chance to hone my feedback skills. This show has it all and then some — ghost ballet, double harmonium, giant silverware, dance, fabric blowing in the wind, music, fog machines, live painting, absurd parades, slow crawling, snacks! this performance happens upstairs and downstairs but your experience does not need to involve stairs to be the experience. this performance is for grown-ups but this performance welcomes kids. Yes, this performance lasts 6 hours! Entry is available every 30 minutes. Come and go as you like. Stay for the whole time or just breeze through. Go have lunch and come back. Watch through the window. Take a nap in the yard. Shift your perspective. Yes it is about this specific place and this specific time, but it is also the impermanence of spaces, the impermanence of bodies, the impermanence of our bodies within spaces….nothing lasts…and yet traces are left behind. David of DITD talks to Claire Alrich about her new dance show, MAKE ME A MONUMENT, and other cool things! This show takes place at Dance Place, March 22st and 22nd at 7:00 pm. #dance Tangling the innate comedy of the body with its capacity for sublime beauty, make me a monument is a new, site-specific performance for the Dance Place theater. With post-modern dance, object theater, and a dash of musical theater razzle-dazzle, this work conceptualizes monument-making as a way of shaping communal spaces, celebrating mortality, and embodying memory.
