24 years ago, I stood with the Second Lady of the United States, Tipper Gore, in the Blue Room of the White House. We were waiting on George Bush as the in-coming President. Tipper turned to me and said “tell me something happy!” I said …”Vince and I are having a baby”. She beamed and ran to tell Vice President Gore, who said “oh thank goodness, the pressure is off.” During the 2000 campaign, he’d constantly noted that after 8 years as his official photographer, Tipper and his daughters felt it was time for a baby. So 24 years ago Hunter, you were in the White House for the transition of power. Sometimes in the midst of darkness, a shinning light is born. Just believe… brighter days will come! My father, Bob Shell, was an amazing man. He raised my sister, Sloan and I to believe that we could do anything as women and we were stronger for being women. For my brothers Bob and Walker, he was a great mentor that they raised to the occasion for. I will miss you but I know you are at peace. It’s stressful enough signing up for your senior year of classes but add hurricane Idalia and no electricity. Your freshman year started with Covid and now this. We are so proud of you!
One year ago you got accepted to Stanford! A week ago you finished your second quarter! Today, you start your third quarter (second on campus), and you got your first dose of the vaccine. Dad and I are so proud of how you @hunter_musi turned 2020 into a winner year.
In 2009, Joseph Biden rode the train to Washington, DC to be sworn in as Vice President. This week he rode in to be sworn in as President. Today he becomes #46. It will be wonderful to see him on the other side of the Oval Office desk. @joebiden@whitehouse@drbiden
"YES! I'm a Feminist" is an annual event organized to raise funds for the College of Charleston Women's and Genders Studies program. This year our event is virtual. Without your support, WGS can not continue to teach and support diversity and acceptance of all genders and races...all people. Now more than ever we must support our students and their futures, in order for acceptance to survive and thrive. Go to give.cofc.edu/WGS. Please watch the video to learn what "Yes" means to all of us. #yesimafeminist, #cofcwgs, #giveyouryes
