I made a wakeboard! A while back, I got the urge to try making my own wakeboard. It’s called a Watercolor Paintbrush. “Wakeboarding is an art, you bring the color. Here’s your paintbrush.” I came up with a design, and the art concept and made it by hand. It even features a real paint brush embedded in with the art. It also has a bunch of new and proprietary ideas in the design, with several trademarks. With trial, and much error, I made my way to where it is now, sitting at 139 cm, 47 cm wide and around 9.5 lb (not bad for a first try, and I know if I make another one I could get it down to around 8 lbs). I shaped it based on about 10 different boards I’ve loved over the years. It’s an amalgamation of some of my favorite characteristics from the byerly blunt, wake tech gator pro, Mike weddington pro and Mike weddington (mega man) pro model, a women’s cwb 135 (forget the model), another cwb that I can’t remember the name with 6 molded fins (which inspired my 8 molded fin design), liquid force Harley Clifford pro, liquid force trip, hyperlite Shaun Murray fluid, a wake park board with a wood rail (I wanted a wood rail and I’ve never seen that on a a “wake” board), a Neptune GTO, Neptune impala, and liquid force squirt. My goal was to make a fun board that was loose and forgiving, while also being able to hook up, generate some speed at the wake while having a wide design that will pop a lot as well. Over the pandemic I decided to record some ideas for a project I had been thinking about for a while. I wanted to record instrumental music in a trio-ish format (guitar, bass, drums). This sort of thing is very nostalgic to me and I wanted to make it sound inspired by bands my friends Jake (rip) and Ben (rip) and I listened to growing up, often in earshot of my Dad (rip, also his grave is pictured on the back art for the lp, as well as on the “Maisie” single art. Photo and concept by me). Bands like At The Drive In, Sunny Day Real Estate, Wax Wing, Foo Fighters, Supergrass, Pearl Jam, Social Distortion, Queens of the Stone Age, Smashing Pumpkins, Bouncing Souls, Sonic Youth, AFI, etc. I wanted to pay homage to Ben and Jake while also paying homage to all the bands I loved growing up that are now without a lead singer. Bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden, Screaming Trees, Alice In Chains, Mother Love Bone, Blind Melon, to name a few. I wanted it to symbolize the absence of a lead singer to reflect the absence of so many lead singers of that era. As for the last song on the album, my friend Greg (from @theiiagency ) generously let me use his vocal 🙏 to build a 90s inspired rock ballad of his song “Maisie” which he says in the chorus, “Bring me roses on my grave, bring me rock ‘n roll love.” I felt this was the perfect way to end the album which had been my musical “moment of silence” up to that point in the album for my friends and for those bands. Having finished the album with this vocal and lyric, I felt it opened the door for future cloudy bright records that feature a lead vocal/vocals. This gets me excited for future possibilities with the project and the development it could take from here. Thanks so much to @t.cutforth for the incredible guitar work featured on “Territorial Jesus,” “Cut Slow,” and “Maisie.” All other parts written, performed and recorded by yours truly. This song is out today! It’s called rock n’ roll will never die by my project echosha. If you're a fan of sound design, "rock" sounding electronic music or electronic music in general, you might dig this. Hopefully this could be interesting regardless! Maybe it could even make your workout playlist? lol I used to only listen to "real" music and didn't really consider electronic music that cool or relevant but was originally drawn to electronic music through music that sounded like it was influenced by rock. So, I tried to pay a bit of homage by being influenced by rock's energy on this electro house track. Warning! I went a little intense on it! However, I figured if there was a track to do that, this would be the track to go over the top on. Also, you can hear my kids and my voices and nested in there in a few places :-) Anyway, I hope you like it!
