At the end of @yarncentrick last year, I asked @tanneicasey if she might collab with me and sew a bag especially for CAKEpalooza. Long story short, she said yes. I handed her my hand painted CAKE backdrop at the end of the event. We talked through some ideas and then I left the fabric in her talented hands. In October 2024, Tannei delivered the sweetest bags. They went fast! There were two sizes available, a bag and a pouch, and somehow I managed to score one! I’m holding the pouch in the above photo. Well, Tannei and I have met up once more, hand painted fabric was exchanged, and new bags are in the works. I can’t wait to show you this new bag! New York Sheep & Wool Festival weekend kicks off on Friday with three smaller events: Indie Untangled, which launched in 2014, @cakepalooza2024 , which started in 2021, and @awoolenaffair , which premiered last year on Saturday and has now joined the all-day Friday extravaganza. The organizers of these Friday festivals decided to work together this year to celebrate the Hudson Valley fiber community. We chose a New York State grown and spun Corriedale yarn from @battenkillfibers and Alissa of @cakewoolco dyed it in joyful floral colors. Catherine of A Woolen Affair and @brooklyngeneralstore designed the Community Garden Cowl, with stripes of woven stitch and stripes of flowers, emblematic of how we’re weaving together our three gatherings. Shop Update: It took me awhile after Yarncentric to post all the yarn on the website, but it’s now complete! Feels so good! A few new bases have been added for you to see as I hope to slowly introduce you to them. The yarn in the above photo has been around for sometime, but has only been available at in person events. This beauty is a dk base named Glaze. It’s a delicious blend of alpaca, silk and linen that has glorious luster and drape for summer tops and shawls. It feels wonderful next to the skin.
