CAIRDE Physical Training Session
All talks and workshops are FREE.
š About the Session
A healthy body is a vital tool for a strong workers' movement! Join us for a community exercise class with Cairde Community Training that focuses on building both physical and collective power.
This session uses mobility and conditioning to show that workers need to be physically strong to stand tall and fight for their rights. By training our bodies, we prepare ourselves to handle the pressures of the workplace and stay resilient together.
About Cairde Community Training:
Based in Galway City, Cairde provides inclusive, community-focused fitness for all ages and ability levels. The initiative is built on developing individual strength to add to our collective power to "punch up" against systemic inequality. These donation-based sessions support ACLAI Palestine and other vital programs for marginalized groups.
Join us next Tuesday to watch three films from Jabal Amel.
All proceeds going directly to families facing violent attacks from the Israeli war machine in āSouth Lebanonā.

About the film;
In the late 60s, Dhofar rose up against the British-backed Sultanate of Oman, in a democratic, feminist guerrilla movement. The Peopleās Liberation Army ā barefoot, without rank or salary ā freed a third of the territory, while undertaking a vast program of social reforms and infrastructure projects ā schools, farms, hospitals, and roads were built, while illiterate teenage shepherdesses became more forceful feminists, and 8-year-old school children learned to practice democracy with more maturity than so many adults. A still-topical portrait of a liberated society and an exploration of the role of oil in U.S. and British involvement in the Middle East.

Our last event of the year was a film screening followed by a discussion with the great Ainle à CaireallÔin - (@rebel_matters ).
The screening included sections from the film āConcerning Violenceā (2014) written and directed by Gƶran Hugo Olsson.
This was followed by a discussion that Ainle led on the idea of violence in the context of anti-colonial resistance, shared experiences from Ireland and Palestine, and the post-colonial reality in the south of Ireland and its effect on Irish activism and solidarity. Ainle is also the founder of @aclai_palestine , which is the community we are raising donation for through our exercise sessions and film screenings.
Special thanks to Ainle as well as everyone that joined us on Tuesday and engaged with the film and discussion.

Concerning Violence is a bold and fresh visual narrative from Africa based on archive material from Swedish documentaries 1966-1987 covering the most daring moments in the struggle for liberation from colonial rule. This powerful footage is combined with text from Frantz Fanonās landmark bookĀ The Wretched of the EarthĀ āĀ written in 1960 and still a major tool for understanding and illuminating the neocolonialism happening today, as well as the unrest and the reactions against it.Ā
