Fun fact about me: I’ve been a college professor for 10 years! 👩🏽‍🏫 it’s the epitome of nerdom! Higher education has always been personal. My mother spent her entire career in higher ed — teaching everywhere from Ivy League to public to private institutions. But she got her start at a community college. Toward the end of the 44th President’s term, I knew I wanted to pursue this goal - I would finally have the TIME. I grew up on college campuses. Passing on knowledge and nurturing the next generation was never a question — it was a calling. I initially had my heart set on teaching at a few institutions in the DC area and was fortunate to teach at a prestigious institution. But one day in the EEOB, I had a brief conversation with Dr. Biden. She encouraged me to consider teaching at a community college, explaining that the impact I wanted to make might be even more meaningful there. For those who don’t know, she has always continued teaching at community colleges — regardless of the job her husband held — she’s infamous for grading papers on planes. I took her advice. I tried it. I loved it. There’s something about supporting students who are balancing work, family, dreams, and second chances. Something about that access point to opportunity. And fun fact — my Dean at the time was a Salisbury University graduate. Full circle in more ways than one. Of all the titles I’ve held, Professor is STILL my favorite.☺️ 🧡 #EducatorsUnite #LifelongLearning #WomenWhoTeach

Had the best time at the Women of Mt. Washington gathering — such a beautiful reminder of how much talent, creativity, and entrepreneurship exists right here in our community. From fresh juices and fashion to handmade teas (because y’all know I try to stay away from coffee 😂), every table had something special. Please continue to support small businesses, women-owned brands, and local entrepreneurs whenever you can. Community grows when we invest in one another. 💚

Speaker Emerita Adrienne Jones has spent more than 30 years serving in the Maryland General Assembly, including making history as Speaker of the House. She understands better than most what it takes to lead, build consensus, and deliver results for communities across our state. That’s why her endorsement means so much. Speaker Emerita Jones knows the responsibility that comes with serving in the legislature — and she knows the experience, judgment, and leadership it takes to be an effective legislator and leader in the House. I’m honored to have her support.

Happy Preakness! 🏇🌼 While the Preakness is not being held in the 41st District this year due to the much-needed reconstruction and investment in historic Pimlico Race Course, we are proud to celebrate the spirit and tradition of this incredible event alongside our friends at Laurel Park. As we reflect on moments from Preakness past — and especially last year’s celebration of the 150th Preakness — we are reminded that this race is about more than horse racing. It is about community, history, legacy, and the deep roots that Pimlico and the Preakness have in Maryland culture. These investments ensure that future generations can continue to gather, celebrate, and create memories around one of our state’s most treasured traditions. Here’s to honoring the past while building an even stronger future for Park Heights, Baltimore, and all of Maryland. Wishing everyone a safe, joyful, and exciting Preakness weekend!

Spent time in West Baltimore for the Black Family Wellness Expo and this is exactly why I do this work. Health policy is not theory to me. It’s personal and it’s practical. It shows up in whether someone can get screened, talk to a provider, pick up resources, or get connected to care without jumping through hoops. What we saw were vendors and, more importantly, on site services meeting people where they are. Access to provider services has to be intentional. It takes coordination, trust, and real investment. That only happens when public and private partners come together with a shared focus on outcomes. This is the work I’ve spent my career doing. Making sure policy translates into something people can actually feel and use in their daily lives. That is the kind of leadership I am bringing forward.

Very grateful to have the endorsement of Vice President of the Baltimore City Council, Councilwoman Sharon Green Middleton. Fun fact: Sharon and I both started at Baltimore City Hall during a time of transition and new leadership. She was stepping into her role as the newly appointed District 6 Councilwoman, and I was a newly graduated young professional continuing my journey in public service. Watching her lead over the years has been both inspiring and grounding. She has long been a fierce advocate for Baltimore’s neighborhoods, older adults, public health, and community-centered leadership. As the Dean of the City Council, she brings wisdom, consistency, and deep institutional knowledge to the work — but more importantly, she leads with heart. I’m honored to have her support and grateful for her example of steady, people-first leadership.

🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️ What is happening in Southern state legislatures, courtrooms, and elections absolutely matters to us here in Baltimore and in the great state of Maryland. We are not insulated from national attacks on rights and protections. For over a year, @HouseDemocrats , voting rights advocates, and constitutional scholars have been warning people about coordinated efforts tied to the 14th Amendment, birthright citizenship, and access to the ballot box. In 2025, Republicans introduced the Birthright Citizenship Act of 2025 and backed T R U M Ps Executive Order 14160, “Protecting the Meaning and Value of American Citizenship,” both aimed at restricting birthright citizenship. In response, @housedemocrats introduced the Born in the USA Act and joined lawsuits and constitutional challenges defending protections under the 14th Amendment. What we are seeing now did not happen overnight. It was planned, filed, debated, challenged, and pushed through legislative and judicial systems piece by piece. I recently talked about this during a community forum when asked about the SAVE Act (check out my C highlight ). But this is exactly why people have to pay attention to process, not just headlines. I’m talking fast because I only had 60 seconds to respond! 😅 What starts in state legislatures does not stay there. Court cases move up. Federal judges rule. Supreme Court decisions reshape national policy. Members of Congress introduce legislation modeled after what states are testing. And suddenly, something people thought “could never happen here” is affecting all of us. Whether it is voting rights, birthright citizenship, or attacks on longstanding constitutional protections, these fights are connected. And even here in Maryland, we cannot afford to treat them like someone else’s problem. So yes, stay alert. Stay informed. Stay engaged. And in my @joebiden voice: keep the faith. And in my John Lewis voice: vote like your life depends on it.

As we close out Nurses Week, I want to take a moment to recognize everyone who shows up every day to care for others. A special shoutout to my family members who are nurses. I’ve seen what this work really requires — the time, the pressure, and the commitment to people at their most vulnerable. Your work matters. Your career matters. And the impact you make is real, no matter what anyone else has to say. Thank you for everything you do.

Preakness Week always brings energy to Baltimore, and while the races are in Laurel this year, the community tradition continues right here in Park Heights. Here are a few photos from last year’s George “Spider” Anderson Festival — a day full of neighborhood pride, family fun, local vendors, and community resources. The festival returns this Saturday and is always a great opportunity to connect with residents, organizations, and the heart of the community. Thanks @phrenaissance ! If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, be sure to check it out!

Happy Mother’s Day to all of the amazing mothers, grandmothers, stepmoms, godmothers, aunties, and women who help raise and support our communities every day. I’m especially thankful for my mom, my stepmom, Godmom, and all of the women in my village who helped guide, encourage, and pour into me throughout my life. Our communities are stronger because of the love, wisdom, and care you give so freely. *This is the photo featured on the back cover of Dr. Namesakes book in 1989 and she explains I was marching to the beat of my own drum that day. She’s a Virgo and an artist - they let their kids be great 😉* Wishing you a joyful and well-deserved Mother’s Day!
