Sometimes the test pieces emerge singing from the kiln. I’m testing slips, engobes and glazes as they step up to claim their agency in the moments of connection. Here I’m slicing up bowls and joining them back together. Next up with be joining them to their neighbours. Different clays, different joins, all making new wholes. Brand new information😅 it seems like I only started feeling better when I actually stopped. Accepted that I couldn’t Get Back To It. Admitted I wouldn’t be ready to pitch up to the big art fairs, make the work, teach the workshops, present at tutorials. Once I accepted that, 9 weeks into the process, I’m starting to recover. Who knew???
Seriously, I’m devastated I’m not able to show, to not have the ability to make the work… and I’m grateful that work from January (the Before) is making its way into the world. I am so looking forward to being able to get back to the wheel. Being benched on medical orders for 8 weeks so far, with 4 more to go, I am aching to get back to the clay. As my brain comes back to me I am able to work deep into my sketch book and plan out ideas for the exciting new projects later this year! 💙
