@ca_superintendent Tony Thurmond released the following statement in response to @cagovernor Newsom’s 2026–27 May Revision budget proposal, highlighting major investments that support student achievement, educator development, special education, literacy, and community schools across California: “I am grateful to Governor Newsom for advancing a budget proposal that continues California’s commitment to investing in our students, educators, and schools,” said Superintendent Thurmond. “These historic investments reflect what we know works for students: strong literacy support, increased resources for special education, continued support for community schools that provide wraparound services, and resources for recruiting and retaining teachers. Applications for the Summer Food Service Program and the Seamless Summer Option close this week! The SFSP and SSO are federally funded, state-administered programs that serve free meals to children eighteen and younger when school is out of session. Summer meals provide children with access to essential nutrition during school closures and summer break. California is making major strides in expanding personal finance education for students! 💰✨ @ca_superintendent Tony Thurmond joined Sacramento Mayor @mayormccarty and leaders from @nextgenpf to celebrate the progress being made ahead of the 2027-28 implementation deadline. The CDE will continue leading Assembly Bill 2927 implementation efforts, including a May 20 webinar titled “Launching Your Personal Finance Course,” designed to help district leaders and educators navigate statutory requirements, scheduling, curriculum materials, and professional learning opportunities.
