@cadenceweapon is the funniest heās ever been on his new record, Forager.
āI think I was getting back to the essence of when I first started making music.ā
He sat down with @tomjoepower to talk about that decision, and how thrifting and old-school hip-hop inspired the album.

My new album Forager with @juniat35 is out now! This project is for the hip hop heads, the Lo Lifes, the stylists, the archivists, and anybody who remembers when Raekwon wore the Snow Beach jacket in the āCan It Be All So Simpleā video.
Big shout out to my right hand man @calvinhrtwck who recorded and mixed the album, @nikseven who mastered it and massive thanks to everybody at @sixshooterrecords who helped to bring this record across the finish line. Big up @moderndaymordecai for his assistance on the beats.
Thanks to @lastnamelorde@bobbybowenn and @polytex.studio for their work on the album design that perfectly emphasized the fashion aspect of this album.
Special thanks to the Forager band for helping us achieve this sound:

Cover reveal! My next book Ways of Listening is out on May 26th on @mcclellandstewart and I canāt wait for you all to read it. You can pre-order at the link in my bio.
The streaming era has completely redefined what it means to listen to music. Wading through todayās oversaturated online landscape, we assess the numbers before we press play. Monetized social media has transformed music from a sacred communion with the spirits into the elevator music that you put behind your next reel.
Music has been devalued by streaming platforms that have pushed artists to release more tracks at a faster rate, lest they be left behind by the algorithm. And music has been supercharged by new technology that allows you to create at the blink of an eye, but only if youāre willing to exploit the existing works of other artists.
It was these circumstances that encouraged me to write a guide to our present moment for those who might not be aware that a different way of listening is possible. Ways of Listening was written to be a definitive tool to help todayās listener parse through the increasingly hostile architecture that undergirds the ways that we now listen to music online.
But this book isnāt about making a better Spotify playlist; itās about regaining our agency at a time when the tech overlords are pulling out all the stops to make the idea of making our own choices seem somehow laborious.
Ways of Listening is a nonfiction book of music essays about the album rollout as an art form, digging for music as a meditative exercise, ignoring stat-obsessed online commentary, and not being afraid to speak out against the ills of society on record.
Iāve always wanted to translate exactly what music and sound has done for me in my life into something with some permanence. That is what I believe I have done with this book.

The truth about getting shows as a musician in 2026. Itās not about the music, itās the numbers.
Post the word āBANDā in the comments to learn more about what I have planned āš½
My new book Ways of Listening is out May 26th on @mcclellandstewart and Iām happy to announce the launch events!
Looking forward to these conversations and the ones that Iāll be having with yāall in these spaces.
Which event are you pulling up to? Where else should I go? Let me know in the comments!
My deepest thanks to @joshokane@wadehudson and the Globe and Mail for this thoughtful, generous profile. Itās such a joy to have my work be so carefully considered.
The life of a musician is not for the weak of heart. As much as social media often celebrates successes, making music also involves a lifetime of rejections and failures that arenāt seen by the public.
Thatās what makes a moment like this so gratifying. An artist being this prominently featured in Canadaās newspaper of record is unheard of in this day and age, especially for a rapper over two decades into their career.
I donāt take any of it for granted and Iām eternally grateful to anyone who took the time to listen to Forager or anybody who will read Ways of Listening when it comes out later this month. Thank you!
