Another one from my EIGHT ARMS TO HOLD YOU show @cactusgallery ! This one started out as a drawing for Rotty Halloween 2024 (RH2K24), drawn with black @higginsinks and white @kuretakezig_usa ink on toned gray Bristol (see the second image). Once I got to the painting, I knew I wanted to play up the squares part of it, so I painted it on a square 12"x12" panel and added some square clouds to the mix. But partway through I knew I needed something more, the "cherry" on top. That's when I thought of adding a friend. His name is P□□ch (see what I did there? I hope it worked). That's the sketch I made of him in the third image. In the fourth image I added him digitally to the original sketch to get the size right and get his feet lined up with the hill horizon line before I transferred him to the painting-in-progress. Here's the next painting for my EIGHT ARMS TO HOLD YOU show @cactusgallery ! This is another one that started in what accidentally became my "Cute Monsters" sketchbook (see the second image) and what happened when I got a request for pollinators. The original sketchbook page was 5¼”x8½” and drawn with a mechanical pencil. The general idea was already in the sketch, so I only needed to tweak some things to round out the final painting. Here's the next painting for the EIGHT ARMS TO HOLD YOU show coming up @cactusgallery ! The original drawing for this one was part of the 2018 Sketchbook Project (R.I.P.) and one I posted that year for Rotty Halloween (see the second image). Less than a month before I drew it, an old bandmate from back in the day had passed away at only 47 years old. A few weeks after that I lost another friend who was only 43. I wanted to make something that reflected the heaviness I was feeling. I scanned all the drawings before I sent the book back to the people at the Sketchbook Project, but because it was in a sketchbook it still showed the page break and some shadows, so I tried cleaning it up for you (see the third image). The title of the drawing is HEART PATCHES. I won't get into the whole story of the Sketchbook Project, but a bunch of the sketchbooks were burned in a fire in the trailer they were using to transport them to their new home in Florida. I'm not sure if this one made it out or not, but either way, it's no longer in my possession. For the painting I wanted to play with the lighting and try to get the mood I was looking for. I wanted to give a sense of hope in spite of whatever might be going on in your life or in the world, that someone, somewhere is holding you in their heart.
