Huhtamaki Wab performing in Don’t Let The Bastards Grind You Down, an exhibition I curated as Cabbage for @gifestival in 2021, hosted at @skyparkglasgow 🏙️ This is an excerpt from the film of the same name, that served to experimentally document the work and atmosphere of the exhibition, acting as a work within itself and also as a way for those viewing remotely to experience the exhibition. Due to Covid-19, Wab’s performance was never performed to an audience, but recorded within the exhibition in front of their painting installation “How do you eat in a asemic lands? Smoke-voice do wafts, shopfronts do snake n leaves dance with the invisible” and sculpture “Spaceship aged 7 lucozade/flu hallucination”, both made in 2020, commissioned as part of the Cabbage Resilience Programme. Huhtamaki Wab’s practice operates within an animistic and non-anthropocentric world where interconnected spirits and humans populate landscapes to create ecstatic realities. These depictions are situated within the lineage of representations of animistic belief from his birthplace of Japan, in wide-reaching references from contemporary manga to ukiyo-e prints of the Edo period. You can view the full film by clicking the link in my bio and I’m going to share a few more clips soon for those that find them more manageable 🌞 it’s been really special looking back at this work recently and thinking about ways to take some of this work forward, in new places and to new audiences. 🔸The Resilience Programme and film were curated by me & funded by @creativescots & filmed & captioned by @sean.p.campbell & camera assistant @morwenna_grace #artist #artistfilm #exhibition #glasgow #japan #percussion #manga #spirits #animism #performance

Drawing as Stimming with @chippedpale and the LGBTQIA+ young people YAY group at @intercomtrust ✨ “We began to resolve the questions of how we can aggregate our mark making towards the design of objects that support neurodivergence, and how might this offer us space to deprioritise speech and the written word.“ Sam Metz, 2026 Such a thoughtful year of projecting with Sam @tatestives with @lywardian & many thanks to the British Art Network for sharing our reflection on the project this week. You can read it via their website or the link in my bio 🥸 First photo shows a set of the sculptures in their new home in the Tate St Ives staff meeting room.

Valentines with Beryl ❤️ such brilliant exhibitions at @karstgallery & @theboxplymouth and really moving to see an exhibition bring out the locals (often donning leopard print) in droves for art. The interpretation labels at The Box were full of juicy morsels of Beryl legend & the response works at KARST carried the same eclectic & tongue in cheek spirit and some more unusual and earlier Beryl gems❤️‍🔥 gorgeous day all round! And proud to have recently begun as a trustee at KARST 🫶 congrats to both teams & all the artists who delivered these bangers! Clocked the same three cats in the first two works across the venues, were they hers? 🐱🐱🐱

Installing today open tomorrow! @tatestives Teylu Visiting Artist @josieko_art on display until end of March 💙✨🌊 a work co-created with visitors & local community groups @kowetha_cornwall @transparentpresence @trelya_cornwall and @tatecollective producers ✨ these blue beings explored links between Cornish, Scottish and Nigerian sea mythologies, making reference to the ‘fir gorma’ or ‘blue men’; mythical dwellers of the strait between mainland Scotland and the Outer Hebrides, thought by some to have been based on the presence of North African slaves brought to Scotland by Vikings in the 9th century. Thanks and love to the wonderful @josieko_art it’s been a real joy 💙

The best five days with @josieko_art at @tatestives as the first Teylu Visiting Artist 💙 Josie created three blue beings inspired by Scottish, Nigerian & Cornish Black British histories and each cultures parallel mythologies of the oceans, collaboratively built by visitors to the galleries and local community groups including global majority families group Kowetha & LGBTQIA+ families group @transparentpresence ✨ Creating spaces of community sharing & making on a large scale and supporting Josie to bring her work to Cornwall has been so joyful - much needed ❤️ One of the finished blue beings will be on display at Tate from mid December to March, as well as for the Teylu Festival in early Spring 🌱 Thanks to the brilliant Josie, Izzy, Carey and the team for making this happen 🌟 Photos by me & Ian Kingsnorth, Teylu Visiting Artist 2025, Tate St Ives
