I met George around a month ago when he tried to sell me an airplane.
I had been curiously investigating one of his aircraft parked outside The Runway Cafe, a homey aviation themed diner in middle-of-nowhere-California, when he mistook me for a fellow pilot.
And while I don’t know the first thing about planes, I DO know a few things about George. Here’s some interesting bits I learned about him from our encounter:
- He’s a chapter president of the Experimental Aircraft Association, an organization that hosts local food drives and offers free plane rides to kids
- He once got into trouble with the feds over his “flying car” - a contraption built by welding real wings and propellers onto his daughter’s car while she was away at college
- He wants to get a tattoo of a UFO abducting a cow
- He has four cocker spaniel / pit mixes (the name of the breed?… “Cockpit”)
