One day when I was 17, I walked into my Art Textiles class and just absolutely broke down & bawled my eyes out - not knowing whether it would be my last day there. This was the year I needed to start applying for university and I know I’m capable of anything I set my heart to but was fashion the path for me?
I had to drop one of my subjects in the last year of A-levels because I wanted to do the best I can for all my subjects instead of spreading thin - it was between biology or textiles. My teachers were telling me to hold on to the academic subject for safety - biology was the safe & important option. If I dropped biology and kept textiles, I wouldn’t be able to apply the top academic universities (because it’s not a recognisable subject) and if I dropped textiles I would be miserable. I decided to follow my heart and kinda wanted to rebel a little.
Fast forward a few months, I got an interview offer to study fashion from my dream school and the day before my interview someone asks me “have you heard of the starving artist?” Yes it was a grown man… saying this to a 17 year old girl full of dreams.
Well I’m glad I stayed true to myself and didn’t listen to the haters 💕 I’ve learnt so much choosing my own path- i couldn’t see myself doing anything else !
I’ve found family with Fashion Parade 💕
Getting to be creative and meet so many passionate youths is what has kept me going in this journey of changemaking.
The last few years have come with challenges but I’ve enjoyed every bit. Super grateful for all the opportunities and memories!
We’ll keep going to inspire more people to begin their sustainable fashion journey! 💕

Old Crocs 🐊 deserve a second life too 👀♻️
Featured in this post is the new Keep It Going Classic Clog in the Terre Dust colour-way, made with 25% post-consumer recycled content collected through the “Old Crocs. New Life” takeback programme.
The Takeback Box programme has also officially launched across 17 stores in Singapore, where anyone can now drop off their old Crocs to be recycled, reused, or donated → they go to Lifeline Clothing Sorting Facility!
Love seeing more conversations around extending the lifespan of what we already own. Alsooo old shoes can be transformed into entirely new materials and products, like coasters with @semula_asia ♻️
Small steps, but definitely a step towards more circular fashion 👣 Would you wear these?💕
Fashion may not always be the first thing people think about in sustainability - but for Lumin from @fashionparadesg and Lei representing @playdatethrift , it became the starting point. 👠💃
What began as a love for fashion evolved into a mission to rethink the industry’s impact on people, waste, and the planet. Through workshops, conversations, and community spaces at Earthopia, they’re helping make sustainable fashion more accessible for the next generation.
We’re proud to support changemakers like Lumin and Lei who are driving these conversations forward. 💚
