Third time’s the charm! 🍀
I’ve been tapped to do @wmag ’s Directors Issue twice before, and both opportunities fell through, the most recent of which due to the fires last January.
So I didn’t fully believe this story was going to happen until I arrived at the Million Dollar Theater the day of the photo shoot, where @thejessiebuckley played a ghost visiting her old haunt, directed by @chloezhao and photographed by Lukasz Zal, in a mini-reunion of the @hamnetmovie cast and crew.

Interesting day at “the office,” aka the Million Dollar Theatre, which was opened as a silent movie theater in 1918 by Sid Grauman, who would later build the Egyptian and the Chinese Theatres.
It was in Sid Grauman’s office at the Million Dollar Theatre where silent film star Fatty Arbuckle learned he was a suspect in the death of a young actress named Virginia Rappe, with whom Arbuckle and a couple friends had partied days before in San Francisco. The incident is widely considered to be the first ever celebrity scandal.
After three trials, Arbuckle was acquitted, though his career and reputation never recovered.
The theater interior is bathed in crimson, which adds to its noir-ish vibes.
