Weâve rebranded! Childhood is built from moments and meaning, a warm coat, a safe bed, a laptop for learning. Our new look and Frank the Otter, chosen with our Youth Advisory Panel, reflect our commitment to delivering what matters, when it matters most. Weâre still Buttle, just clearer, braver, and more ready to stand with children and young people. For what matters in childhood.

Restoring hope after struggling with childhood grief
Laura and Jade from the Midlands were struggling with grief and their mental health after their mother suddenly passed away. Their stepfather then took his own life after leaving them to live with their grandmother.
Their grandmother is working hard to keep the girls in her care. With a little help from Buttle, we gave them both art lessons and tuition to help them at school. They got some new clothes and shoes each to help with their confidence, and we even got Laura a prom dress so she can celebrate the huge milestone of finishing school!
Buttle is all about restoring hope to children and young people who need a helping hand in the big, wide world. Thatâs why weâre a part of #AMillionActsOfHope

Moving on from assault can be a treacherous path of difficult recovery.
16 year old Adam from Scotland really struggles with leaving the house, engaging in education and making friends. He was assaulted by a stranger, and witnessed domestic abuse from his dad towards his mum. He no longer sees his dad, as he would emotionally abuse him when they were able to see each other.
The Buttle team gave him a grant to give him some badly needed support. He got a new phone and some driving lessons to help him feel more comfortable going out. He signed up for some art classes to express himself, and went on a short trip away with his mum and younger brother to make some new, happy memories together.
Adamâs confidence has started to come back and heâs feeling hopeful about the future again.
Buttle is proud to support #AMillionActsOfHope as all over the country, young people like Adam discover what it means to feel hopeful again.

đ¤What could the latest elections results mean for children in poverty and crisis?
The shifting political landscape in Britain means: supporting children & young people through poverty & crisis is not up for debate, itâs a necessity.
A childâs circumstances should never be their destiny, and this needs to be reflected in every political party's promises to their voters.
We welcome the initiatives from winners SNP & Plaid Cymru in Wales: âĄď¸SNP's 'defining mission' to eradicate child poverty
âĄď¸âBest Startâ targets in Wales
We are immensely proud of our work towards ending the two-child limit which resulted in 350,000 children being lifted out of poverty!
But the current Labour government must invest more to help families in poverty.
The disparity is even more stark for children from Black and Asian communities, where 47% are living in poverty, over double the rate of their white peers. (Source: DWP Households Below Average Income Stats 2026)
We look forward to working with all governments to ensure that these manifesto promises translate into real-world dignity, ensuring that no childâs future is capped by the hardship they experience today.
We look forward to working with all governments to ensure that these manifesto promises translate into real-world action.
After experiencing domestic abuse, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Welsh young person, Carys, had nowhere to turn after the domestic abuse she endured at the hands of her older brother became too much. When her mother refused to step in, she had to leave the family home. Sheâs now living independently in a place thatâs safe. At college, Carys is studying science with the hopes of becoming a researcher one day.
Her grant from Buttle helped her find hope again. She got all the things she needed to kit out her new place, to live comfortably on her own, and a laptop with everything she needs to continue her studies. Carys told her support worker that her main hobby is watching films, so she got a cinema pass for the year to keep up with all the new releases!
Weâre proud to support #AMillionActsOfHope to help children and young people find their hope again.

How do you get back on your feet after aging out of the care system?
Saoirse, a young person from Northern Ireland, found herself in an impossible situation where she was forced to live alone with no support, as her guardian was unable to look after her anymore. After spending time to focus on her mental health and get back on her feet, she was able to go back to college and focus on what was important to her, studying to become a social worker to help children and young people just like her.
The team at Buttle gave her a grant for all of the bits she needed to go back to college and really lock in with her studies. Weâve also paid for the things to get her a good start to her adult life like driving lessons and a gym membership.
At Buttle, we donât just give items to children and young people who need us. We give hope.

Young adults who have been forced to leave their homes are completely unsupported by the government.
But you can help!
Sign our letter to Keir Starmer calling for:
âĄď¸Legally Define: Adopt a statutory definition of estrangement.
âĄď¸Provide Equal Rights: Give estranged young people the same statutory support entitlements as care leavers.
âĄď¸Streamline Evidence: Create a unified verification process for estrangement to stop retraumatising estranged young people

No young person should have to choose between an abusive home and a life of uncertainty and instability, so sign our letter and letâs get work towards estranged young people having the right care, support and opportunities that we all deserve.
Our friends over @buttleuk are writing to the Prime Minister on behalf of the over 200,000 young people in the UK who are estranged from their families.
Every day, a young person is abandoned by or has to cut ties with their family. But we receive no support from the government, because we are invisible.
