With his interpretation, based on the first 5 notes and the orchestral minor chord in the denouement of Strauss‘ Walz, Roy F Culbertson III stretches the opening chord into a drone and stays put. The static space offers room on the dancefloor of the mind to walz without meter and time. The looped minor chord juxtaposes a catastrophic end to the opening’s lightheartedness.
