š³ Apartment š³ is the second single from the upcoming album ā24 Hour Horse Hireā
Apartment is the first song I ever wrote. There is a recording of the jam where it first materialised, with made up words over a repeated 4 chord progression and my friend improving solo bits. You can find it on my Soundcloud with him saying āwhat the hell was that?ā at the end, which I too was wondering the same thing. Stream of consciousness writing doesnāt come naturally to me, still doesnāt. I am better able to let go and not judge every single idea that flows out unfiltered, bad ideas are an integral part of the creative process. Iām still trying to accept all the mistakes, I donāt think I ever will - refinement is a lifelong journey and thereās only one way to be perfect. I kept the lyrics in tact. In 10 years, with the help from friends this song has grown into something unrecognisable from the start yet familiar just like home. I hope it shapes up to any kind of standard, I hope it was all worthwhile.
Featuring violin by the wonderful Thea Martin. You can hear her playing in bands:
Any Young Mechanic, Cagefly, War Room, Twine,
and check out her placid poignant indie folk project āshort snarlā and their two EPs āGossamer Songsā and āSelf Noiseā it is VERY good,
and also check out local DIY record label caps lock records who put out periodic compilation albums comprised of Adelaide artists called āSitting In The Same Chairsā curated by Thea, which in my opinion are some of the best selections in our music scene,
and also check out Some Where Sessions open mic (Weds from 6pm), and Somewhere Tape Sessions where they record 2x live sessions onto cassette at Some Where House
And also I love ya, goodbye for now and see you somewhere/nowhere

One of the most treasured moments of my life captured by the illustrious and inimitable @spozitron . I recall looking up at the bright lights above as though the heavens were shining down on me and us. The only rehearsal we did was one run through of the verse during soundcheck. Thank you Glenn for sharing such a special moment with me, and everyone in attendance that shared that special moment with us ā¤ļø
āØOut today āØ
Being labeled āBaron von Doodleā on venue chalkboards all over Adelaide, we decided to contribute to the confusion and called our debut 5-track EP āDoodleā featuring āSomething From Nothingā! Itās available on Bandcamp and on the streaming service of your choice šµ

Hereās my cover of The Ice Is Getting Thinner by Death Cab For Cutie. It is the final track from the album āNarrow Stairsā released around this date in 2008. Allegedly, as the story goes, the lyrics to this song are printed next to a photo of Chilkoot Pass during the Klondike Gold Rush of the late 19th century. The single file procession traversed the treacherous trade route between Alaska (US) and British Columbia (Canada) of approx 1500 man made steps that were too narrow for more than one person at a time; it came to be known as the āGolden Stairsā and speculatively was the inspiration for the album title. Unfortunately, many men and horses alike died along the way⦠but they built up with their bare hands what we still canāt do today

Here is a cover of Spoiled by @sebadohofficial written by freed Dinosaur Jr pig, @loubarlow . It features as the end credits to the movie KIDS, which if you have never seen a Larry Clark film, probably donāt, and if you do expect permanent onset depression after viewing. Also do check out Folk Implosion (Lou Barlow and John Davis) āMusic for KIDSā soundtrack (Daddy Never Understood fuckin banger right there).
The kids are alright, except for the kids in KIDS, probably.
I love Built To Spill. It recently came up on a post about the moods of seasonal transitions (go check out @smiling_strange if you love profound insights set to the coolest music of 90s indie rock), as we are easing out of Australian summer I proclaimed Built To Spill to be my peak summer vibe, while many would argue is Dinosaur Jr, both answers are entirely correct. So I present this cover of I Would Hurt A Fly with matching Dino Jr shirt.
I seem to recall a live video of them playing this with one particularly enthusiastic member of the audience gaining notoriety (in multiple videos) for his absolute joyous enjoyment (including *claw* at āfingernails across the moonā line) which is how great music should be enjoyed, honestly - if anyone recalls or has a link let me know. Sad to report my left hand fingernails are currently a suboptimal length for guitar playing.
Thank you all for your appreciation of new Mince For Vince single Apartment, 2/3 from the upcoming album ā24 Hour Horse Hireā, Iām a little bit proud of us for this one, and IT IS NOW ON ALL STREAMING PLATFORMS EXCEPT SPOTIFY ā¤ļøšāā¬

š± Nekojiru tattoo š±
Thank you to @xty_noir at @ink_obsession for my amazing fresh ink and my dad for the lovely drive up to Nuriootpa. Christie whipped up the changes to the design on the fly in lightning speed, and although very simple compared to his usual incredible repertoire of artwork, I very muchly highly recommend and very nice place !
Nekojiru was the pen name of the manga artist that created the Cat Soup universe. Chiyomi was her name, her and her husband Yamano were a team responsible for a vast body of work that gained a following in the 90s, and on the cusp of fame and a promotion deal with Tokyo Electric, she ended her life. Their work inspired the anime adaptations āNekojiru Gekijouā (a lighthearted but cruel short form series of 27 x 2min episodes), and award winning short film āNekojiru Soā or most famously known as Cat Soup.
The movie is a masterpiece, my favourite anime of all time, and possibly film. The surreal Lynchian art style, lacking dialogue entirely, depicts an anthropomorphic kitten venturing the land of the dead with his sick sister in order to save her soul, and has confused the public for over two decades. I cry every time I watch it.
The following is a blog post from a friend of Nekojiruās, describing her as blunt and honest to the point of rudeness, even selfishness. I interpret her as being a highly sensitive autistic person who was in pain all the time. After endless repeated viewings, it all finally makes sense to me. Have a read here:

⨠Melbourne NYE āØ
Itās been Chaos As Usual here so I havenāt had much bandwidth to sit down and actually write a post but my recent trip to Melbourne was the most incomprehensibly insane yet. Buckle up for a story buckaroos, we are going over the character limit.
A good omen to start the journey, I sat Lucky Number 13 on the bus next to this young girl which immediately gave me a feeling of relief. We got to chatting, the usual āare you visiting or going homeā she said āIām going home but I was visiting family, I used to live in Adelaideā etc. We listened to Larry the Bus Driver lay down the law as though we were children on the bus to school (which, legit, have you met people?). About half way through the 13 hour trip of great banter and the kind of stifled laughter that makes one want to piss oneself, I bring up Facebook (as you do) and the three most feared words in the English language: āI know you!!ā Lord, how my insides tensed, this happens far too often than I would like and will one day cause a genuine heart attack. āErr⦠what context do you know me?ā She joked back āwhich Sunee do you knowā so apparently she knows me fairly well. Turns out it was Liamās partner Arlo, Adelaide misses you guys! Best bus ride ever, thanks for the beers on arrival, place to crash, and beautiful company as we embark on a tale of madness.
What I had planned was to was attend the Neil Hamburger NYE show at Brunswick Ballroom and leave on the 2nd, supported by Umlaut, Phil Franklin, Magical Simone, and Dr El Suavo (Jeffās magic act, with piano accompaniment by Daniel, and Ingrid as magicianās assistant). I ended up on merch duties down in the foyer before you go up the stairs (the venue insisted on it being downstairs) and I had a sudden realisation that maybe I should have my square reader with me at all times⦠you know just in case anybody ever wants to randomly give me money. Met some Interesting Clientele, police were a no show (shocking), and had one of the most wonderful NYE celebrations with some of the loveliest and talentedest people around (thanks for my free Suavo t-shirt, from a series of Black Flag - Six Pack homage designs by Phil).
