I played pedal steel live for the first time the other night and it didn’t completely suck. Things feel so far from the days in NYC learning to play behind songwriters, but yet, we’re all still learning and growing. Thankful for the gig with the great @thecosmicorchestra .. we backed @lethargic_chanteuse the other night, and wow… she’s the shit.
I made this video yesterday, because I kinda wanted to talk about these ideas, but then I deleted it because I’m trying to quit my smart phone, cause I really think it’s horrible. But here are some ideas from my practicing, and kind of what I mean by still trying to learn to play 30 something years later. If anyone is interested to study some of this stuff in person, they can get a hold of me. I really think in person mentorships and relationships are invaluable. Sometimes I have fantasies of competing in this space, but as I get older, I’m more realistic about it not being worth the time. Yesterday Felix and I went to the Verizon store and shopped for stupid phones, they cost about 80 bucks. @kennyburrell31 #jazzguitar #ES-175
30 years ago. I was around some truly remarkable musicians around Buffalo growing up. @outlawfiddlejam and the great Dave Chiavone, also a great drummer even as a teenager Paul Campanella Jr. wow.
Last November I got to play a handful of new songs at @soulfulsundown in Manhassett. The band is so soulful, serving the song, egoless - they are great! Here is a song from my upcoming record called “Strivers”. @buffalostack on guitar, @chrismarshak on drums, @pat_f_falco on bass, @cass.house on harmony vocals, @eugeneruffolo on guitar, @preddicello on cello, @benwisch on keys. All going down at the warm and inclusive UUCSR. Hope you enjoy. Mix by Andy Stack and video edit by Chris Marshak.
