8x10 tintype - wet collodion on metal plate.
“We met in the interval between two kinds of time:
his, urgent and spoken aloud, and that of the collodion, which refuses to hurry.
Buddy Wakefield arrived like someone who has travelled too far to pretend lightness—carrying in his body the residue of stages, empty rooms, repeating cities, and that rare kind of presence that does not ask permission.
In front of the camera, a quiet agreement took place:
to suspend the noise, to accept the weight of the moment, to trust that whatever truth surfaced would be enough.
Wet collodion does not forgive distraction. It demands stillness, risk, surrender. Much like poetry when it stops performing and edges dangerously close to confession.
During those seconds of exposure, something between resistance and release occurred. Not a gesture, not a pose-but a rare alignment
between what is shown and what remains.
The silver held him there: not as a public figure, nor as a champion, but as a body crossed by stories still looking for a way out.
This portrait is not about capturing Buddy Wakefield. It is about witnessing the moment he allowed himself not to escape.” —@nunomarcelino

24 years ago this dude @sagefrancissfr mailed me a check outta the blue because he believed in me and heard I was having a rough time on the road. Three years later he released my album, Run On Anything, on his record label @strangefamousrecords . In 2007 he took me on a 43-date national tour through some of the best venues in the US. Last night I paid for dinner at a Thai place. One of us got a great deal on this friendship.
