John Prine was a legendary American singer-songwriter, often characterized as a “mark Twain” figure in music for his masterful storytelling, profound empathy, and unique blend of humor and sorrow, & before this week - I’d never listened to him before. I know, right? I’m so dumb. How is that even possible? Anyways, I thought it would be a great chance to see what everyone’s been going on about for all these years, when @_kyliefox_ , Wade Hallihan, @brentmason1984 , & @ea_sandy_mackay brought their tribute to John Prine to @glasgowsquare on Sunday. Ok, two things: a) I didn’t know any of the songs. b) It was really, really, really, really, really, really good. Was the first dance at your wedding, a John Prine song? [see: slide 9] Then you’re going to want to go to this show. Have you been really meaning to get around to checking this John Prine’s stuff out, but you haven’t yet? Then you’re also going to want to go to this show. It had been 1,497 days since we last saw @bradenlamusic - during @novascotiamusicweek in 2021 - & we weren’t going to let a little bit of a winter storm keep us from making the trek down to the big city, to catch his SOLD OUT show at @lighthouseartscentre warming up the stage for Adam Baldwin & The Jenny Wren. Braden & Co. (Racheal, Cass, & Jamie) treated the ever-growing crowd of early birds, keeners, & just-in-timers to a set that was heavy on tunes from his latest & most excellent record The Cloudmaker’s Cry - with a few new ones (I Could Cry, Somewhere In Between, Paradise, NS) thrown in as well. 📷 Richard Lann / @buddylovesham 12/12/25

The demand was so high for @danieljamesmcfadyen ’s show at @glasgowsquare on Saturday night, that what was originally planned as a cozy Green Room performance - had to be moved down the hall to the main stage, after having sold out the smaller space. Despite the larger room & crowd - Mcfadyen still managed to keep things both intimate & interactive (I, myself got to hold down the right side of the crowd, as the anchor to a [tidal] wave). We were treated to two sets of songs that spanned his entire discography; from Caroline, to Landmines, & everywhere in between - including some really great new songs, and not one, but TWO John Prine covers (again with this John Prine fella lately, amiright? I get it now, he was good!), ending the evening off with a lively & unexpected rendition of “The Rattlin’ Bog” w/ Sarah Surette. @altctrltheband (Patrick Pentland, Andre Pettipas, Jeremy Taggart) brought their supergroup therapy class to @glasgowsquare , on their recent debut run of shows here on the east coast. After taking in The Jubilee’s Flourish After Dark stage at Glasgow Square, I made my way to the @shoeboxcantina ; where as luck would have it, I was just in time, to catch the last song of @charlieacourt ’s SOLD OUT show - a masterful loop-machine assisted version of ‘Carolina’, from his award-winning debut album Color Me Gone (2002).
