We’re currently working on acoustically treating a social music space and we begin the process with taking some measurements. Here are some parameters to measure before you get down to prescribing what your space needs to provide a better listening (and social) experience to visitors:
1. RT 60 - This is the time is takes for a sound to decay by 60db. In spaces with dense walls and less ‘things’, this can be a lot. This generally causes lack of clarity.
2. Early reflection points - Once these points are determined, you know that these are the points where your treatment begins. These are the first points where the sound waves hit and reflect sound. In studios we’d want just direct sound, but in social spaces the reflected sound is essential however needs to be controlled.
3. Frequency response - The frequency response at different spots will tell us how the loudspeakers are acting in conjunction with the space - with it’s walls, with it’s sofas, with its tables and chairs etc. It’ll show us where the work needs to be done for a better experience.
4. Waterfall (energy) - Some parts of played music may sound bigger and louder - the hi hats for example, or maybe the bass notes. This graph shows us where the energy buildup is high, and thereafter we know what need to work towards.
5. Room modes - Ever noticed a room sounding ‘boomy’ ? Yup, that’s the room mode. Construction material and parallel surfaces cause room modes to give us an unpleasant listening experience. Once have these frequencies, we can work towards controlling them.
These measurements work as a great starting point for knowing what needs to be done, and preparing a roadmap for acoustic treatment to achieve the desired pleasant listening experience.

When I was invited by @nariyal.paani to play for them, I was asked to play an extended set from open to close and guess what - I LOVE warming up a dancefloor - the time when there are a few people, they're chatting, sipping on drinks or eating something or both, slowly beginning to shake a leg. That time is so relaxed and enjoyable, it's so nice to see people slow-grooving to the music and then getting closer and closer to the sound system.
I began outdoors and then shifted indoors (guess why?). Close to an hour of my outdoor set is out on Youtube - link in bio.

Meet @bubblegunsvinay AKA Vinay Daswani :
An audio engineer, electronic music producer/DJ, and lifelong music collector, Vinay has worn many hats over the years — from event producer to artist manager — shaping sounds and scenes alike.
Beyond the decks, he’s a surfer, skater, and community builder and (somewhat obsessively) collecting synthesizers.
While many of you know him for his psy sets, Bubbleguns is never one to stay in a box. This time, he’s diving deeper — exploring new textures, new moods, and something completely unexpected.
He’s been crafting a special set just for this night.
Trust us… you haven’t heard this side of him before.
Mark your calendars. 🌊🎶

The last 2 days saw us get hands on training for the incredible @sennheiser Spectera wireless system. Such incredible technology allowing large racks to be reduced to the size of one single unit that can be used for both wireless transmission and reception, that too with such great audio quality and minimal chances of dropouts ! Excited to be a part of this revolution in wireless technology and looking forward to see the wonders it does to live entertainment.
Thanks to the teams at @sennheiser_in@srfti_official for putting this together. Thank you so much for the training @_suman_02 🙏🏻🚀☀️⚡️
