My beautiful baby boy. All I’ve ever wanted in life is a baby, and God did not give me the ability to have kids with the man I love, but he did gift me you. I feel ridiculous—but my grief that you’re not here is so potent, I can’t speak of it. Casual conversation evades. I miss our little family. I love you so much. I don’t want to be alone. I pray every week in Mass, every night to Grandma, that you are okay, that she’s taking care of you. I promise to take care of Albins for you. Your Daa misses you so much. Happy birthday my handsome man, my whole world.

⭐️MEET THE PLAYWRIGHT OF FAMILY SIDESHOW ⭐️ A native of Tacoma, Washington, Brysen Boyd has always been a story-teller. Throughout his career, Brysen has crafted several award-winning original plays and worked on various television projects. Beginning in 2021, Brysen joined the writing staff of HBO’s Succession as the first inaugural writing fellow, a unique position created just for him, and even had the opportunity to work on the full version of Family Sideshow during downtime in the writer’s room. Brysen began the journey to write Family Sideshow early on in his graduate career. Birthed from a class assignment inspired by the Coney Island Sideshow and his personal background, Brysen submitted the 15-play-page to KCMPT’s 1st annual Black Playwright Festival and won. From there, Brysen was asked to turn the play into a full version for it to later be performed. Unfortunately the COVID-19 Pandemic, delayed the performance for the next five years, and now the world premiere is finally happening this May. Family Sideshow was created seven years ago, and when asked what it means for the play to be debuting at KCMPT, Brysen said, “I feel so incredibly grateful for KC Melting Pot. It’s really significant that KC Melting Pot is the first one to do the play because they are the reason why the play exists in its current form. And this play has changed my life in a lot of ways.” To learn more about Family Sideshow and purchase tickets visit the link in our bio. #worldpremiere #familysideshow #kcmo #kck #kcmeltingpottheatre #kansascitytheatre #theatrenews #playwright

I got an essay published a bit ago titled PWI—which was not fun to experience, but is one of my favorite nonfiction pieces I’ve ever written. One cause of the Golden Shovel form, two cause I’m simply proud of it. You can read the entire essay (less than 700 words) at the link in my bio or if you wanna zoom in on the second slide lol

Goodbye to a show that was only briefly my everyday, but absolutely changed my life in every possible way. I’ll miss the Roys a great deal. Shiv and Marcia in particular. “I just keep thinking about… when we get home before dinner and we have the very first glass of cold white wine on an empty stomach. I just love that.”
