It’s strange to work on something for so long and to release it on the internet but it feels so powerful to know people I love, respect and admire are reading it.

I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Tomiko Morimoto West at her home while working on the film “Appreciation” that tells the story of Tomiko’s experiences as a child during the atomic b*mbing of Hiroshima in 1945. The film was created to promote peace by my talented friend Chuck Gomez and his co director Michael Dwyer. I think back to being in Tomiko’s presence, at 90 years old she has that special joy and kindness that only a true survivor can embody, it touches you to the marrow. We stood at her Torii - a traditional Japanese gateway, symbolizing a spiritual gateway to pass through from the mundane to the sacred. The light gently caressed her face, her eyes - that have seen the greatest tragedy in humanity - lit up and as she smiled she radiated that very peace the film seeks to capture. I offer you this moment now.
Fall is a season of transition and I wish you deep harmony as you pass through each day.
Give us love, give us peace on earth.

we’ve buried our beloveds,

we’ve danced in the Colorado air, and one summer afternoon, as the sun set, we took these film photographs in New York.
